GLENDALE, AZ - Dalton Sneed threw for 191 yards and six touchdowns, and the Arizona Rattlers defense fended off a late Duke City Gladiators, to emerge with a 55-53 win today at Desert Diamond Arena.
With the Rattlers leading by 10 in the final minute, Duke City's Joe Mancuso found Gregory Dent, Jr. for a 14-yard touchdown. The Gladiators converted on a two-point conversion pass from Mancuso to Deva Concliffe. Ernesto Lacayo attempted a deuce on the ensuing kickoff, but it was wide to the right, sealing the win for the Rattlers.
Arizona moves improves to 5-4 with the win and is in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. The Gladiators fall to 0-8 as the only winless team remaining in the IFL.
This was the only meeting between the teams this season. With the win, the Rattlers move to 10-0 in the overall series between the teams. Six of those wins have come at Arizona.
Sneed completed 18 of his 30 attempts. Shannon Brooks rushed for 48 yards and a touchdfown. Corey Reed, Jr. hauled in seven passes for 85 yards and three touchdowns, and Nih-Jer Jackson had four catches for 76 yards and a pair of scores. Traevarius Farrell led the Rattlers defense with eight tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack.
Mancuso went 11 of 25 for 98 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for a touchdown. Jeff Carr rushed for 35 yards and another score. Dent had four catches for 48 yards with two of those going for touchdowns. Joe Powell's 6.5 tackles led the Rattlers defense.
The Rattlers had a 115-yard advantage in total offense with 90 of that coming in the passing game. They also had a 25-yard edge on the ground. Arizona was penalized 10 times for 60 yards and Duke City was flagged seven times for 49 yards.
The Rattlers will visit the Jacksonville Sharks on June 1 with a 4:05 p.m. kickoff. The Gladiators are on the road to face the Tucson Sugar Skulls on June 1 with kickoff set for 6:05 p.m. Times listed are pacific daylight time.
