Strike Force 42, Oilers 34
6/1/24 --
TULSA, OK - After last Sunday's heartbreaking loss, the San Diego Strike Force needed to bounce back.
On Saturday night in Tulsa, they responded.
Nate Davis threw five touchdown passes; three of them to Arthur Jackson III, and the San Diego Strike Force defeated the Tulsa Oilers Football Team 42-34 at the BOK Center on Saturday night.
The two teams traded defensive stops on the first two possessions, then the Strike Force (6-4) opened the scoring. Nate Davis found Arthur Jackson III in the end zone to give San Diego a 6-0 lead as the extra point was blocked. On Tulsa's ensuing possession, the Strike Force recovered an Oilers fumble; which led to Davis finding Rudy Johnson in the end zone to give San Diego a 14-0 lead after the successful two point conversion. The Oilers (3-7) drove into the Strike Force red zone to end the first quarter, and they started the second quarter on a high note as Andre Sale found Joshua Crockett in the end zone for a touchdown to cut the deficit to seven points.
San Diego responded as Elijah Lilly returned the ensuing kickoff into Tulsa territory, and Davis found Jackson in the end zone for a touchdown to put the Strike Force back up by double digits. The Oilers countered with Andre Sale scoring on a quarterback sneak to bring the Oilers within seven again, but the Strike Force answered with Davis finding Rudy Johnson on a deep pass, and he ran into the end zone for a touchdown. Tulsa drove into the San Diego red zone on their next possession, but faced a fourth down at the one-minute Warning. The Oilers couldn't convert, and gave the Strike Force a chance to increase their lead before halftime. However, after moving deep into Tulsa territory, San Diego couldn't score as the Oilers came up with a stop before halftime.
The momentum of that defensive stop carried over to the second half as Jonathan Nance returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to cut the deficit to seven points. On the ensuing possession, the Strike Force drove to the Tulsa red zone, but the Oilers came up with a goal-line stand to get the ball back. However, they were unable to tie the game and missed a field goal to give San Diego the ball back. The Strike Force took advantage as Rudy Johnson scored on a rushing touchdown to put San Diego up 35-21 going into the fourth quarter.
The Oilers turned it over on downs to start the fourth, and the Strike Force turned it into a touchdown as Davis found Jackson in the end zone to give San Diego their biggest lead of the game at 21 points. Continuing to show fight, Tulsa scored two touchdowns to cut the deficit to eight points, but they were unable to recover an onside kick late in the fourth quarter and the Strike Force ran out the clock to secure the win.
Nate Davis showed why he is one of the top quarterbacks in the IFL, as he led drive after drive resulting in a touchdown. His main target; Jackson, continued to show everyone that he is an elite wide receiver in the IFL. Tulsa rallied from several fourteen point deficits, but ultimately ran into the better team on this night.
The Oilers will visit the Jacksonville Sharks on June 8 for a 4:05 p.m. kickoff. The Strike Force are at home to battle the Arizona Rattlers on June 8 with kickoff set for 6:05 p.m. Each game is scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. kickoff. Times listed are pacific daylight time.
Both games, as well as all IFL games this season, will be streamed live on the IFL YouTube Channel and Caffeine TV IFL. SCtoC will present previews of those, and all, games this season. Those previews will be posted on the board of the home team in each game. Click for our complete IFL 2024 Schedule.
