Panthers 51, Sugar Skulls 12
6/8/24 --
SAN JOSE, CA - Daquan Neal threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another as the Bay Area Panthers downed the Tucson Sugar Skulls, 51-12, tonight at SAP Center.
As solid of a performance as Neal's was, the 12 points allowed by the Panthers was a season-low in the IFL. The previous low came just a week ago -- by the Sugar Skulls in a 21-20 loss to the Duke City Gladiators.
With the win, the Panthers move to a league-best 9-1 on the season and are in first place in the Western Conference, two full games ahead of the Vegas Knight Hawks and Northern Arizona Wranglers who both sit at 7-3. Bay Area also completes the season sweep of the Sugar Skulls having won the first matchup, 44-31, on April 14 at Tucson.
The Sugar Skulls fall to 2-8 on the season. The Panthers lead the overall series between the teams 4-3, including a mark of 2-2 at home.
Neal finished seven of 12 for 117 yards to go with his three touchdowns. He also rushed for 45 yards off 10 carries and another score. Felix Harper completed five of his 12 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. Shane Simpson rushed six times for 45 yards and a pair of scores. JT Stokes caught four passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Jazeric Peterson had three catches for 55 yards and a touchdown, and Joshua Tomas caught three passes for 54 yards and another score. Antwon Kincade tallied nine tackles to lead the defense. Darin Hungerford had a sack and Joe Foucha picked off a pass.
Former Iowa Barnstormer Zach Reader, signed last week by the Sugar Skulls, went 11 of 22 for 80 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 32 yards. Tyron Laughinghouse, also recently signed by Tucson, caught a pair of passes for 29 yards with a trip to the end zone. Jaquez Jackson and Ahmad Lyons each recorded 6.5 tackles for the Sugar Skulls defense.
Bay Area gained 318 yards of total offense to 157 for Tucson. They had 140-yard advantage in the passing game and a 21-yard edge on the ground. The Panthers were penalized nine times for 36 yards and the Sugar Skulls were flagged six times for 25 yards.
The Sugar Skulls will host the Frisco Fighters on June 15 with kickoff set for 6:05 p.m.. The Panthers will host the San Diego Strike Force on June 16 for a 3:05 p.m. kickoff. Times listed are pacific daylight time.
Both games, as well as all IFL games this season, will be streamed live on the IFL YouTube Channel and Caffeine TV IFL. SCtoC will present previews of those, and all, games this season. Those previews will be posted on the board of the home team in each game. Click for our complete IFL 2024 Schedule.
