on friday, october 3, the TNT network canceled one of its most popular shows, Dallas, after three seasons (40 episodes). the following is TNT's statement regarding the cancelation:
“We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation of the Ewing saga. We want to thank everyone involved with the show, from the extraordinary cast to the impeccable production team, led by the show’s creative forces, Cynthia Cidre and Mike Robin. We especially want to thank the people of Dallas for their warm and generous hospitality during the production of the series.”
i find this kind of interesting that the show "defied expectations," yet was canceled. the ratings were down a little bit in the third season, but most anticipated a fourth season. additionally, the network authorized $100,000 for a single explosion scene which occurred at the end of the season three finale. if the network was leaning toward cancellation, how would they not have seen that as a waste of money?
show developer Cynthia Cidre noted that she had already been working on scripts for season four.
the cancelation leaves a lot of open storylines, such as:
* did a certain character really die in the explosion referenced above?
* who is John Ross sister (and, of course, J.R.'s daughter)?
* will Pamela keep her father, Cliff Barnes, in a mexican prison?
* can John Ross and Emma Ryland move forward as "just friends?"
* who is the father of Elena Ramos' baby (Nicolas, Christopher or John Ross)?
trust me, there are several more left-open questions.
there has been talk, mostly from fans, of another network picking up the show or a movie to help tie up some loose ends. i guess that's possible, but probably a long shot.
finally, this was posted on facebook by Josh Henderson (John Ross) to thank fans for the run that Dallas had.
