Jan. 20 -- While broadcasting the Blazers Jan. 17 game at Memphis, Blazers television team Mike Barrett and Mike Rice began talking about Brandon Roy, specifically the comparison between one of his dunks to a recent dunk by Damian Lillard. They took a moment talking about Roy.
I'm going to post how this was relayed by The Oregonian's Mike Tokito, who interpreted it quite nicely.
"
Ruminating on Roy: Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice bring a casual, conversational style to calling Trail Blazers games that has made them well-liked (and sometimes not-so-well-liked) by fans. The style sometimes leads to tangents, including a surprisingly moving one during their call of Saturday's game against Memphis.
It started in the "Wear in the World" segment in which a fan is shown wearing Blazers gear somewhere in the world. In this case, fan Kaylyn Berry was shown standing in front of the Taj Mahal in India. But it was what she was wearing that sent Barrett and Rice into a tangent: a No. 7 Brandon Roy jersey.
Rice: "Nice picture. ... I'd like to see BRoy at one of the Blazer games. Come down and ..."
Barrett. "We were just talking about that."
Rice: "Yeah, visit everybody that still loves BRoy."
Barrett: "It's probably tough for him at this point to be that close to it."
Rice: "Yeah. Because he's still young. A young man. Career ended way too soon."
Barrett then talked about how, during an eariler game against the Lakers, they showed a replay of a Damian Lillard dunk, followed by a similar dunk by Roy.
Barrett: "It just seemed like just showing that little clip, social media lit up with memories of Brandon, his play on the court."
Rice: "There were some great memories. Some great shots, just like this guy, Damian Lillard, hit some big shots."
Barrett: "Maybe we can get Brandon to come down and join us on a broadcast and sit between us for a game. How about that?"
Rice: "Oh, it would be tremendous."
Barrett: "Somebody get that done."
Roy's last appearance in the Moda Center was on March 2, 2013, when he was a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was injured and didn't play, but the Blazers did show him on the scoreboard, and he got a warm standing ovation.
The main men in the Blazers front office – team president Chris McGowan and general manager Neil Olshey – had nothing to do with Roy's career, so it might take an effort by Barrett and Rice to make an appearance by Roy, at the arena where he made so many memories, happen.

Your turn, in the poll above, how would you like Brandon to visit a Trail Blazers game?
