Feb. 24 - The Philadelphia 76ers have placed a waiver claim on former Blazer forward Thomas Robinson.
As we reported yesterday, Robinson had agreed to a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets, but this afternoon, the 76ers, who had salary cap space to sign Robinson, placed the waiver claim on him. They had until 2 p.m. (PT) to place the claim. The 76ers are required to reach 90 percent of their cap space. Bringing in Robinson will meet that requirement.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported the waiver claim on twitter this afternoon.
He was unable to crack the rotation and saw only sporadic minutes over the past two seasons in Portland. The Blazers traded he, forward Victor Claver, guard Will Barton and a future first-round pick to the Nuggets in a trade-deadline deal with brought guard Arron Afflalo and forward Alonzo Gee to the Blazers. Claver was waived by the Nuggets over the weekend.
Robinson will be going to his fifth team in just under three seasons. He is averaging 3.4 points and 4.2 rebounds this season. His career averages are 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds. He attended the University of Kansas, and has also played for the Kings and Rockets. He's been used somewhat sparingly this season; many times in slot appearances to provide an energetic boost. Last summer, the Blazers declined to exercise Robinson's fourth-year option and it seemed as though he was not in the Blazers' long-term plans.
Barton saw his first action for the Nuggets last night in a 119-94 home loss to the Thunder. He tallied 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block in 25 minutes of action. As of this writing, there are no updates on Claver.
The Blazers play the Nets in Brooklyn on June 6.
