March 6 - Former Blazer Victor Claver has signed with BC Khimki, a team in the VTB United League in Russia, it was announced today.
Claver will join the team immediately.
The Blazers drafted the 6'10" forward with the 22nd overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft. He spend three years playing in his native Spain before signing with the Blazers on June 12, 2012. He played two-and-a-half seasons with the team before being traded on Feb. 19 to the Denver Nuggets along with Will Barton, Thomas Robinson and a lottery protected first-round draft pick in exchange for Arron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee.
The Nuggets waived Claver on Feb. 22.
Claver never saw the minutes he had hoped to see in Portland, as he spent most of the past two seasons on the inactive list. He had become a bit of an afterthought when it comes to the Blazers' rotation, as he has spent much of the past two seasons on the inactive list due to the team's relatively good injury history over that time, after having played in 49 games with 16 starts his rookie season. He has seen action in just 31 games since then. He averaged 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds this season for the Blazers. For his NBA career, he averaged 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.
BC Khimki is based in Khimki, Mosow Oblast. The club's first team participates in the Eurocup, as well as in the VTB United League. The league features teams from Russia, Belarus, Cxech REpublic, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Kazakhstan.
Among Claver's new teammates is Sergei Monia, who played for the Blazers during the 2005-06 season. Monia also played for the Sacramento Kings that season.
