Aug. 27 -- As he prepares to go into his fourth NBA season, Trail Blazers center/forward Meyers Leonard took some time out to throw out the first pitch tonight at the Hillsboro Hops game.The Hops were playing the Tri-Cities Dust Devils when Leonard threw out the first pitch prior to the game at Ron Tonkin Park in Hillsboro. They are the defending Northwest League champions and play in the league's Southern Division. Hillsboro is a Single-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks.(photos courtesy @trailblazers on twitter)Leonard was selected by the Blazers with the 11th pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He possesses career averages of 4.9 points and 3.8 rebounds, while shooting 51.7 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from three-point range and 83.1 percent from the free throw line in 164 games (16 starts). Last season, he averaged 5.9 points and 4.5 rebounds. He shot 51.0 Percent from the field, 42.0 percent from three-point range and 93.8 percent from the charity stripe in 55 games (seven starts).With the departures of LaMarcus Aldridge, Robin Lopez and Joel Freeland, Leonard is considered by many to enter the starting lineup on a full-time basis. This is a huge cup of awesome! I have a feeling he is going to get a little more notoriety around Portland and the Northwest this season. I hope he can capitalize on the increased playing time he's going to get.

How ironic this is. It was just a year ago when so many people were saying Meyers should be traded. Now the fan base is excited to have him here and wants to see what he can do with real time on the court.
