Breakdown
STRIKE FORCE
San Diego has gotten off to a rocky start in its second full season, but hope to turn things around against an underachieving Sugar Skulls squad. Still, the season is young and the Strike Force have a chance to make some noise as they go into week 5. With 13 games to play, there remain opportunities to string together some wins and fight for a playoff spot Head coach David Beezer will look to do just that as the team visits its eastern neighbor. Steve Cluley showed some promise in last week's 45-28 loss to the Northern Arizona Wranglers. Making his first start, Cluley completed 16 of 35 passes for 119 yards and a pair of touchdown tosses and no interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown. Davonte Sapp-Lynch is a multi-purpose back who can make a difference in all three aspects of the game. He has four touchdowns on the ground this season. Marques Rodgers and Rashad Ross come in with 110 and 88 receiving yards, respectively, and a scoring grab apiece. David Haney, Ricky Wyatt and London Iakopo are names to look for on the defensive side of the ball. Tanner Kuljian is on hand to handle the kicking duties.
SUGAR SKULLS
San Diego started its season after two bye weeks. The Sugar Skulls went into Vegas and defeated the Knight Hawks in their opener, but ran into a brick wall in the Frisco Fighters last week; falling by 22 points. They'll look to get back on track as they face the Strike Force; a team they have not played in 1,066 days. Tucson is coached by Dixie Wooten, who led the Iowa Barnstormers to the United Bowl championship in 2018. Daquan Neal has completed 27 of 41 passes for 318 yards and seven touchdowns. He also has rushed for a pair of scored this season. Mike Jones, one of the better running backs in the league, hasn't put up the huge rushing yards as he did in 2019, but he's made two trips to the end zone. Carrington Thompson, Sr., Quinton Pedroza and Arthur Jackson have comprised a solid receiving group which gives Neal plenty of targets in the passing game. Brandon Rowland leads the defense, along with Al Louis-Jean. Luke Acrum, Jr., Tony Winslow and Connor Taylor make up a formidable pass rush which will aim to make their opposing quarterback uncomfortable. Logan Justus has proven to be effective in the kicking game.
