RATTLERS
After marching into Frisco and defeating the Fighters by two touchdowns last week, the prospect of an undefeated season is appearing more and more realistic. Of course, it's still the first have of the season and plenty can happen. A matchup with the defending champion Massachusetts Pirates looms a week after this game. The Rattlers are first in the league in points per game and points allowed. Drew Powell is completing 69 percent of his passes for 826 yards with 23 touchdowns and a half-dozen interceptions. He also has rushed for 197 yards and two scores. Shannon Brooks has emerged as the top back and is averaging 51.7 yards per game with six touchdowns. Any one of Arizona's receivers can serve as a game changer. Braxton Haley leads the group with 286 yards and five touchdowns, and Troy Pelletier has 128 yards and four scores. Jamal Miles has a combined six scores on the season. Davontae Merriweather leads the team with nine tackles, and Kyree Woods has 33 takedowns and four picks. Treyvon Williams adds a team-high three sacks to his 30 tackles. Ernesto Lacayo provides the kicking punch for the Rattlers.
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson's fortunes seem to be on the rise after two straight wins. Their win last week over the Gladiators was one for the highlight reel. The Sugar Skulls were about to fall to Duke City with seconds remaining, but blocked a point-after attempt and returned it to the house for the game-winning two-point conversion. The Sugar Skulls are second in the IFL in points scored, but last in points allowed. Daquan Neal enters this game with a 69.1 percent completion rate for a league high 919 yards and 21 touchdown (second). He also has 10 scores on the ground. Mike Jones is one of the top running backs in the league and comes in with a 38.3 yards per game and 11 touchdowns. Like the Rattlers, the Sugar Skulls are talented at receiver. Arthur Jackson leads the team with 296 yards and nine touchdowns. Quinton Pedroza has 261 yards and three scoring grabs, and Carrington Thompson, Sr. has 193 yards and give scores. There are playmakers on defense, but not a major standout yet this season. Ronald Collins has 20 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Maurice Jackson has an interception and three pass break ups. Logan Justus is the team's kicker.
