9/12/19 --
ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Duke City Gladiators have found their first Indoor Football League head coach.
The team announced today that Cornelius "Pig" Brown will take over the reigns as the Gladiators make the move from Champions Indoor Football to the IFL for the 2020 season. Duke City, which played for five seasons in the CIF, made the announcement of the league switch on August 20. The Gladiators are based out of Albuquerque.
Brown replaces Dominic Bramante, the team's only previous coach. Bramante was dismissed last week due to differences in team direction with owner Gina Prieskorn-Thomas.The Gladiators have won the past two CIF championships.
Brown comes over from the Nebraska Danger, which are in a state of flux since being put up for sale by owner Charlie Bosselman. There have been reports that the team is being sold and relocated to Dallas, but there have been no credible substantiation to those rumors.
Under Brown's direction, the Danger finished 7-7 in 2019, earning the fifth seed in the IFL playoffs. They defeated the Green Bay Blizzard on the road, 45-40, in the first round before falling to the Arizona Rattlers, 62-45, at Phoenix in the Intense Conference Championship Game.
In 2018, he shared to co-interim head coaching duties with veteran IFL head coach Adam Shackleford during the last three games of the regular season, and in Nebraska's United Conference Championship Game loss to the Iowa Barnstormers. Brown served the first 11 games of the season as defensive coordinator, while Shackleford spent that duration as offensive coordinator. Brown was also defensive coordinator for the Danger in 2017.
Brown, a key defensive player for four seasons in Nebraska from his linebacker position. is one of three former Indoor Football League players who were inducted into the IFL Hall of Fame during the 2018 United Bowl Weekend. Brown accumulated 319 total tackles, 15.5 sacks and nine interceptions during his IFL career, and was a coach in the huddle and leader for the defense; the "heart and soul of the Danger defense," per the IFL's press release announcing his elevation to the head coaching position. The early move allows Brown to assemble his assistant coaching staff, and begin scouting players for next season, which will be set to begin likely in mid-to-late February.

Our sources have said that Nebraska is done, so the fact Pig Brown was available to become the head coach and Nebraska not announcing he'd left the team is some clear evidence the Danger have ceased operations, in my opinion.
Now, it's just a matter if this Dallas thing comes to fruition.
Dominic Bramante's been successful in his tenure. Pig Brown is definitely "young blood" at the HC position, but it'll be interesting to see if this works or if they'll regret letting Bramante go.

I've not even heard the Dallas rumors as of late. I'm really skeptical of such rumors. I think Brown did pretty well for his first full season as HC. Bringing in Tommy Armstrong, Jr. was a great move. I know Armstrong is being looked at by some other leagues, such as the XFL. If that doesn't work out, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Albuquerque. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of the Danger players follow.

I agree with you guys. This likely means the Danger are done. I'm still not really sure why Bramante was fired, but Brown should be a solid replacement.

I agree with you guys. This likely means the Danger are done. I'm still not really sure why Bramante was fired, but Brown should be a solid replacement. Based on their explanation? They don't think Bramante is "IFL Caliber" as a head coach. This idea I know very well back when the Spokane Shock went to the AFL from af2. They fired Shackleford after he won ArenaCup X and hired Rob Keefe because there was this idea that Shackleford was a good coach, but he wasn't good enough for the level of AFL. This angered quite a bit of people in Spokane. But when Keefe won the ArenaBowl in 2010, that kinda lessened the damage. But years later, you still have people that feel like Shackleford should never have been fired. So when Spokane hired him when they moved to the IFL, it was considered in a ways that they were righting a wrong. This appears to be the same fate for Bramante. I question "IFL caliber" for a coach when CIF and IFL are pretty similar in terms of how the game is played.
