The following is the 2021 Regular Season Schedule for the Hillsboro Hops.
The Hops are members of the newly formed High-A West league, formed out of Minor League Baseball's restructuring of its leagues and teams. The High-A West, formerly known as Class A-Advanced, is one of three restructured leagues playing at the High-A level, which is three grades below Major League Baseball (Triple-A, Double-A ranking higher than High-A).
In addition to Hillsboro, the new High-A West will feature five former Northwest League teams: the Eugene Emeralds, Everett AquaSox, Spokane Indians, Tri-City Dust Devils and Vancouver Canadians. All six teams will play in a divisionless league, abolishing the North and South (formerly East and West) divisions of the NWL.
The Boise Hawks and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes were not invited from the NWL to High-A West, and are no longer apart of MiLB. Boise is now a member of the reformed Pioneer League, the former Class-A Short Season league that is now an independent baseball league with granted status as a Partner league of MLB. Meanwhile, Salem-Keizer was not offered a player development license with any MLB club, forming their own independent league called the Mavericks League, which consists of four teams based in the Salem Metropolitan area and have all its games played at Volcanoes Stadium.
With the move up in the minor league baseball ranks, High-A West will play a 120-game season (60 Home/60 Away) versus the 76 games (38 Home/38 Away) played in the Northwest League. With the addition of games, the High-A West season will now begin in early May and run through mid-September.
Hillsboro remains with its parent MLB club affiliation, becoming now the High-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Hops has been in the farm system of the Diamondbacks since they moved to Hillsboro in 2013.
The Hops look to defend their 2019 NWL title after having defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils 3-2 in their dramatic best-of five Championship Series. The Hops took the first game 3-2 at home, before being blasted by the Dust Devils 9-1 in game 2. The teams went to Tri-City (Kennewick) where the Hops won game 3, 2-1, but lost game 4 by a 6-0 score leading up to the final deciding game 5. It was the Hops' win in that one which enabled them to claim the championship. The Hops advanced to the championship round after downing Salem-Keizer 2-0 in their best-of-three South Division Series.
The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The schedule is broken up into week-long series blocks. The Hops will play an opponent six games from Tuesday through Sunday and have each Monday as an off day. For instance, they open the season at home against the AquaSox on Tuesday, May 4 and play a game each day through Sunday, May 9 before taking Monday off prior heading to Eugene to face the Emeralds for a six-game trip starting on May 11. They play two straight series at home from August 24 to September 5 against the Canadians and Emeralds. Their longest stint on the road is from September 7 to 19 against the Dust Devils and Canadians. The September 19 game against Vancouver is the season finale.
Of note, due to travel restrictions to Canada due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadians will play their home games at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, Oregon (home of the Hops). Therefore, during the Hops' "road games" at Vancouver will be played in their home stadium.
The Hops play their home games at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, which has an overall capacity of 4,500 persons, with 3,534 of that being permanent seating. The stadium was completed in 2013 with the first Hops game being played on June 17 of that year. In addition to 2019, the Hops also won the NWL championship in 2014 and 2015.
After the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team announced on March 17 that they have been cleared to play in front of a capacity of 25 percent of fans (or, about 1,125 persons).
SCtoC has listed the schedule below, followed by the home fields of the Hops' opponents. Times are subject to change, and times currently TBD will be updated when that information is released.
