Breakdown
RATTLERS
Arizona struck fast and often in the first half of their season-opening win last week over the Northern Arizona Wranglers. The Rattlers took a 44-7 lead over the Wranglers by halftime, and held on for a 51-20 win. They are looking for a little bit of redemption after losing to the Storm in the 2019 United Bowl, 56-53. The Storm also defeated the Rattlers in the 2018 Intense Conference Championship Game. Drew Powell, the 2018 IFL Offensive Player of the Year while with the Barnstormers, threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another two in the win. Powell is a threat both through the air and on the ground, creating problems for opposing defenses. Nick LeSane emerged as a force on the ground, rushing for three touchdowns, while Jamal Miles found the end zone twice. Jeremiah Harris and Jarrod Harrington are receivers to watch. Tyrell Pearson, Devin Cockrell and Treyvon Williams are playmakers on defense. Ernesto Lacayo was a perfect seven of seven on his extra point attempts last week.
STORM
Sioux Falls is the defending IFL champion looking to repeat. They have appeared in the last 10 United Bowls and won seven of them. The road to repeat hit a quick bump when the Storm were outscored 21-3 in the fourth quarter of last week's season opener, resulting in a 56-36 loss to the Iowa Barnstormers. As they look to rebound, they will face a hungry and opportunistic Rattlers team looking to regain championship form of 2017. What the Storm have is an experienced and talented quarterback in Lorenzo Brown, Jr., who completed 12 of 26 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another score. Former Cedar Rapids River King Nate Chavious amassed 66 yards and scored three times on the ground. Returning receiver Brandon Sheperd caught six balls for 72 yards to lead Storm receivers. Trey Wafford and Solomon St. Pierre pace a defense and each had eight tackles with a tackle for loss against the Barnstormers. Chase Vinatieri was good on one of his two field goal attempts, of 27 yards.
