Breakdown
GLADIATORS
Duke City was on the cusp of their second win of the season last week before a Frisco Fighters' field goal sent them down to defeat. The Gladiators are looking to get back on track against their newest in-state opponent, the Wranglers. They feature a talented offense which has put up 57 or more points in two of its three games. The problem is that all three opponents have scored 55 points or more. Veteran Nate Davis leads that offense. He's completing 66 percent of his passes for 637 yards with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. Raymond Taylor has rushed only a dozen times in three games, but averages 3.6 yards per carry with a trip to the end zone. Wide receiver Dello Davis caught six touchdowns last week and has 10 on the season. He is paired with Jared Elmore, Gregory Dent, Jr. and Xavier Amey in the receiving group. Karrheem Darrington's 21 tackles lead the team, and Ray Jones, Jr. and Paul Robinson each have 19. Javian Williams has recorded a pair of sacks and Cameron Hilton leads the team with three pass breakups.
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona has had a rough three games, but Dominic Bramante's group will look for a win over the Gladiators, who have dropped two straight. The Wranglers' offense has struggled and is averaging 27.7 points per game while the defense is giving up 51.3 per game. Narrowing that gap will go a long way to winning some games this season. Caden Walters has started the past couple of games in place of Verlon Reed, Jr. who was out due to injury. There may be a chance that Reed, the 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year with the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles, will return for this one, which could turn into a boost for the offense. Walters provides the lone notable rushing attack for the Wranglers. Keyvan Rudd is the standout receiver for the team, though Daron Clark and Terrance Bynum should also figure into the mix despite who starts at quarterback. Derick Calhoun, Micah Eugene, Jr., and Emmanuel Lacey lead the defense and will hope to make an impact in this one, as well as recently signed twin brothers Rob Brown and Robert Brown.
