Breakdown
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona has had several days to bask in its first win as a franchise. The Wranglers looked their best last week as they defeated their new in-state rival Tucson Sugar Skulls. They did it in style with a one-yard touchdown plunge from quarterback Verlon Reed, Jr. with 30 seconds left on the clock, and they did it on national television (Stadium). Reed has been excellent since coming back from injury two weeks ago. He threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 90 yards and another three scores in the win. The performance earned him IFL Offensive Player of the Week honors. Reed is completing 46 percent of his passes with five touchdowns on the season and has rushed for four touchdowns. James "JJ" Brania-Hopp and former Louisville Xtreme Todd Athey are likely to see several targets apiece in the passing game. Robert Brown leads the team in tackles with 51 and in pass break ups with six. Derik Calhoun comes in with four tackles for loss.
GLADIATORS
Duke City is coming off a pair of losses at home to the Arizona Rattlers and Frisco fighters over the past two weeks. They'll look to get back on track in as they close out their three-game homestand. After winning the Champions Indoor Football League in 2018 and 2019, the Gladiators now stand at 2-4 on the IFL season and have dropped four of their last five. Nate Davis is steadfast at the quarterback position. He is completing 60 percent his passes for 1,128 yards along with 33 touchdowns and six interceptions. The Gladiators are rushing for just 23.2 yards per game. Boosting would better balance the offense and put them in a better position score. Raymond Taylor is the main back, but has only carried 24 times in five games this season. Dello Davis, Xavier Amey and Jared Elmore have a combined 28 touchdown catches on the year. Ray Jones, Jr. and Paul Robinson pace Duke City with 35 and 31 tackles, respectively. Javian Williams has two sacks and Daelin Young has four tackles for loss.
