Rattlers 62, Wranglers 19

PHOENIX, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers opened up a 28-0 second quarter lead and never looked back as they turned away the Northern Arizona Wranglers tonight at Phoenix Suns Arena.
The Rattlers remain atop the IFL standings at 7-1 with the win; their sixth straight. The Wranglers fall to 1-7. This was the second of two meetings between the teams this season. The Rattlers won the season opener between the teams, 51-20, at Prescott Valley on May 16.
Arizona scored on its opening possession on an eight-yard pass from Drew Powell to Troy Pelletier. They added to their lead with 5:20 left in the first quarter on Jeremiah Harris' 10-yard run. They went up 21-0 a minute later when Treyvon Williams recovered a Wranglers' fumble in the end zone.
Midway through the second quarter, the Rattlers scored again on a one-yard run from Nick LaSane. The Wranglers got on the board with a one-yard run from Daron Clark with 53 seconds remaining in the first half. The Rattlers came right back on a 11-yard touchdown pass from Powell to Harris. Arizona led 34-6 at the break.
Neither team scored in the third quarter. The Rattlers scored early in the fourth on Jamal Miles' one-yard run, and they added to that eight with 6:32 left in the fourth with a two-yard run from T.J. Edwards. Northern Arizona scored their second touchdown with just over three minutes left on Caden Walters' 13-yard run. The Rattlers came right back on the next play from scrimmage with a 23-yard pass from Edwards to Jarrod Harrington. Johnathan Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 50 yards for a Wranglers' touchdown to make the score 55-19. The Rattlers found the end zone once more when Edwards found Harris for a nine-yard score.
The Rattlers had 233 yards of total offense compared to 193 for the Wranglers. The Wranglers lost a pair of fumbles, and were penalized 10 times for 70 yards. The Rattlers were flagged eight times for 73 yards.
Powell completed 10 of 13 throws for 106 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 42 yards off four carries. Harrington led the Rattlers with four catches for 51 yards and a score. Dillon Winfrey and Josh Gordon each had six tackles, while Gordon added 1.5 sacks for the defense.
Verlon Reed, Jr. finished 12 of 23 for 129 yards and an interception. Todd Athey caught six passes for 97 yards. Russell Williams, Jr. recorded six tackles and Robert Brown, Jr. had an interception for the Wranglers' defense.
The Wranglers will host the Duke City Gladiators on July 17 with kickoff set for 6:05 p.m. The Rattlers head across the country to face the Massachusetts Pirates on July 18 for a 10:05 a.m. kickoff.
