Breakdown
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson picked up a much needed win last week over the Duke City Gladiators. Down 40-33 in the final minutes, the Sugar Skulls scored a touchdown and, instead of going for the to send the game into overtime, they elected to go for the two-point conversion. They converted on a run by quarterback Demry Croft to pick up their second win of the season. With just six games left, the Sugar Skulls road to the playoffs is attainable, but an uphill battle. Croft has started each of Tucson's eight games this season. He is throwing for 61 percent of his passes for 1,311 yards with 24 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He also has rushed for 428 yards with 10 touchdowns. Mike Jones is a solid rusher who comes in with a team high 13 touchdowns on the ground. Ryan Balentine is the IFL's all-time leader in receiving yards, but expect to see JuJu Augustine and Jazeric Peterson to get some targets in this one. Delondo Boyed and Matt Elam have 45 and 43 tackles, respectively, with the latter recording three pass breakups Three players have a sack apiece. Jimmy Camacho has been solid in his three games kicking with the team with an average of 49.3 yards per kickoff.
SHOCK
Spokane is back in the win column after their 46-35 win over the Sioux Falls storm in week 12. The Shock find themselves in third place in the standings and are in a prime position to host a playoff game. They have five games left with the first three being against teams lower then they are in the standings. Playing the Frisco Fighters and the Arizona Rattlers to close out the regular season will be a challenge, but the final stretch starts with this one against Tucson. Thirty year old rookie Blake Sims started in place of the injured Charles McCullum last week. He completed six of 11 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 57 yards and three scores. Davonte Sapp-Lynch is averaging 37.8 yards per game with seven trips to the end zone. Jordan Jolly and Kamrin Solomon lead the receiving group, which got a boost with the signing of Keyvan Rudd for last week's game. Mike Green's 62 tackles to pace the Shock defense and he has an interception. Dominic Sanders has a pair of picks. Kicker Sawyer Petre was named last week's IFL Special Teams Player of the Week for week 12 with a 44-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter and his deuce late in the game.
