Breakdown
GLADIATORS
A win on the road against the Sugar Skulls could go a long way toward earning a playoff berth, but Duke City may not earn a trip to the postseason just in one week. There is a tight race between five teams for the final four playoff spots. The Gladiators control their own playoffs destiny and even have a shot at the fourth seed which would give them a home playoff game in the first round. The Gladiators are second in points scored per game with 51.8, but they are allowing the second-most points per game at 46.1. Expect Javin Kilgo to line up under center (or in the shotgun) in this one. He is completing 67 percent of his passes, and has a pair of touchdown rushes in just three appearances with the Gladiators. Dello Davis Leads the IFL with 64 catches for yards and 27 touchdowns. Jared Elmore and Xavier Amey have combined for 34 touchdown grabs of their own. Ray Jones, Jr. is a monster on defense with 76 tackles and a sack. Rick Rumph has only appeared in four games for the Gladiators and has three interceptions coming into this one.
SUGAR SKULLS
In order to earn a postseason bid, Tucson simply cannot afford another loss. At 4-8, the Sugar Skulls need to win this week against the Gladiators, defeat the Northern Arizona Wranglers at home in next week's regular season finale, and get some help from around the league. It's going to be a tough road, but they are facing a Gladiators team which they've already beaten twice this season and a Wranglers team which they've defeated once this season (though the lost to the Wranglers at Prescott Valley in week 10). Demry Croft seems back at the helm of the team after replacing Cory Murphy in last week's loss to the Rattlers. Croft has completed 61 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. Mike Jones is one of the strongest running backs in the league with 19 scores on the season. Ryan Balentine is the standout receiver, but expect Damond Powell and Jazeric Peterson to see some targets as well. Delondo Boys leads the defense with 61 tackles and two picks, and Jajuan Harley has a team-leading three sacks.
