It's about EFF-ing time! I'm writing breakdowns tonight and this really helps. Feel this sentiment 100%. Now I've gotta come up with a way to account for tiebreaker #3 (head-to-head) in my playoff machine!

Here are the IFL standings after week 16 action Would have been fun to see Green Bay get hot and roar into a playoff spot. They can make some noise next year if they can get some consistency. Duke City and Vegas can't seem to get out of their own way. Whichever breaks through and makes the playoffs, I don't expect them to advance to the United Bowl IFL National Championship. I'm rooting for some chaos. Be awesome to see Sioux Falls miss the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

I would recommend watching the fourth quarter from about the 8-9 minute mark. They recovered two onside kicks late in the game. It was absolutely in credible! I'm posting an updated standings next. The "GB" column wasn't quite right and I just did some more math and have concluded that Massachusetts has clinched a playoff berth.

They can do no worse than the #3 seed in the East at this point, and that would require Mass to lose out and QC to win out. Also could update Frisco's clinched status to "y" - they are firmly in the driver's seat for the East's #1 spot, and it would take two losses and three Pirates wins to knock them off that porch.

I'm rooting for some chaos. Be awesome to see Sioux Falls miss the playoffs for the first time since 2009. I can certainly understand the chaos theory for hoping Sioux Falls missing the playoffs - especially for anyone who has watched or covered the IFL for a number of years (I've only followed since Mass joined the league last year but have done my fair share of research on historical results). I do think the Storm could be a matchup nightmare for whoever they play if they do sneak their way in. Between Dalton Sneed's intensity at the QB position and Nate Chavious' ability to single-handedly influence games, they would be well-equipped for a potentially stunning upset, though losing Dilworth to the CFL does hurt a bit. The only question mark remaining then, would be if the defense can limit the opponent and keep the Storm that one or two steps ahead. Based on last night's loss to the Pirates, they've got some work to do in that regard. I think Sioux Falls ultimately sneaks in - they would in all likelihood hold a potential tiebreaker over Iowa, depending on how strength of schedule pans out. Which means that as long as the Barnstormers drop 2 of their final 3 games, Sioux Falls would need just one win rather than two.

I should also mention a slight schedule change I stumbled upon. Next Saturday's game between the Tucson Sugar Skulls and San Diego Strike Force, originally scheduled for 4:05 ET (1:05 PT) has been pushed back to 9:05 ET (6:05 PT)

I re-evaluated that this morning about the Pirates, so I updated it. The Fighters have not clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference as of yet. If they lose their remaining two games, and the Pirates win their last three, the Pirates would have a better conference record which would give the Pirates the top seed. The Fighters can clinch the first seed with a win in their next game or a Pirates' loss in theirs. Though unlikely, I'm relying on mathematics at this point.

It makes it harder than hell to cover games.

You are correct - the Fighters have yet to clinch the #1 seed, but they are assured no worse than #2, which guarantees they will host a 1st round game.

I did a little bit of number crunching, and I have reason to believe that Tucson has also clinched a spot in the playoffs. Worst they can do is 7-9, and even though Vegas and/or Duke City can match that, the Sugar Skulls would hold the H-2-H tiebreaker over the Knight Hawks regardless of whether the Gladiators are involved or not (the three teams would wind up with identical conference win percentages if the 3-way tie occurs). Therefore, their worst possible finish would be as the #4 team out West.
That means that Vegas' only path to the playoffs involves them winning their remaining two games (vs. BAY, @ ARI) and Duke City losing its two remaining games (@ SD, vs. NAZ).
The situation in the East is much more fluid, with Quad City, Iowa, and Sioux Falls all within a game of each other fighting for 2 spots. The Steamwheelers hold the inside track at 8-6, but they are on the short end of the potential H-2-H tiebreaker with the Storm. A significant swing game against Iowa on the final week could very well decide the Steamwheelers' fate. It might take another week of play to get a better read on how the East's final two spots are occupied.

Standings following week 17 action. Regarding playoff clinching.... The Western Conference is gonna be interesting on who claims the 4th and final seed. Duke City remaining schedule: @ San Diego, vs Northern Arizona Vegas remaining schedule: @ Arizona, BYE Duke City has one game in hand and can clinch with a win or a Vegas loss. So the pressure's on the Knight Hawks to beat Arizona...which is a very tall order. As for the East.... Massachusetts hasn't guaranteed the #2 seed. And Sioux Falls is still technically alive. This race is gonna possibly come down to the final week with Iowa, QC and SF.

This race is gonna possibly come down to the final week with Iowa, QC and SF. To add some spice into the Western race, Tucson could possibly slip to the #4 spot, in the event the Sugar Skulls lose out and Duke City wins out. That scenario would also guarantee the Rattlers the #1 seed, since one of Duke City's wins would have to come against NAZ. The Wranglers need to win their final two games and get some help from the Knight Hawks on Saturday to keep their hopes at the #1 seed alive. If they remain tied with the Rattlers, they're on the wrong end of the conference win percentage tiebreaker. The East, as it did last week, offers the most intrigue for the final two spots. Barring the Pirates completely collapsing, they should handily clinch the #2 seed, with cupcake matchups with Bay Area and San Diego to wrap up their season. Sioux Falls, although a game back, still is very well and alive, with a very winnable matchup at home against GB this week. The other two teams above them have tall tasks on the road on Saturday night ( QC @ Frisco, and Iowa @ Tucson). It's quite possible all three could be tied at 8-7 heading into Week 19, at which point Sioux Falls would control their own destiny, with a finale win at Frisco assuring their spot in the playoffs (since the Iowa @ Quad City swing game would prompt one of those teams to drop to 8-8). Very excited to see how the end of the season pans out. I'm also hearing that teams will be able to possibly bring back players on their Reserve-USFL list in time for a Week 19 return. That adds another unique twist to the regular season's conclusion as well as the playoffs.

Here are the standings after week 18. The Western Conference is set except for the third and fourth seeds. Week 19 should be exciting as three teams are fighting for two spots and all three have a realistic chance.
