Breakdown
STRIKE FORCE
San Diego earned its first win of the season last week in a thrilling, last-second 67-66 win against the Tucson Sugar Skulls. It was just the Strike Force's second road win in franchise history (the first was a 50-36 victory at the Bismarck Bucks in 2020 prior to that season being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They will look to keep up that momentum as they head into Phoenix to battle the 4-0 Rattlers. This is the third of four straight road games for the team. Steve Cluley has seemed to take over the quarterbacking duties after starting and leading the team to it's win last week. He is completing 44 percent of his passes for 268 yards with seven touchdowns and a single pick. Davonte Sapp-Lynch leads the team with 136 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and Travon Van also has three scores on the ground. Rashad Ross has 15 catches for 156 yards and four scores, while Marques Rodgers comes in with 14 grabs for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns. London Lakopo and David Haney have tallied 19 and 18 tackles, respectively for the defense, Haney also has an interception and three pass break ups The San Diego defense has yet to record a sack. Tanner Kuljian came through in the clutch last week with the game-winning extra point.
RATTLERS
Arizona comes in with a perfect record, though they may not quite have been tested at this point. All four of the Rattlers wins have come at the expense of teams with records of .500 or lower. The Strike Force promise to be in a different mindset than the one which the Rattlers defeated by 38 points week 3. Of course, head coach Kevin Guy will have his team ready for the Strike Force invasion into Phoenix. Reigning IFL Most Valuable Player Drew Powell is back in championship form, completing 75 percent of his passes for 145.3 yards per game along with a league-high 15 touchdown passes with two interceptions. Powell also has rushed for 134 yards and a score through four games this season. Aside from Powell, Jamal Miles is the biggest offensive threat. He's a threat as a rusher and a receiver. Miles has 118 receiving yards with four touchdown grabs and another touchdown on the ground. Braxton Haley and Isaiah Huston have 15 receptions apiece for 199 yards and 162 yards, respectively, and have combined for eight touchdown catches. Davontae Merriweather has 31 tackles, while Kyree Woods has 18 tackles and three interceptions. Treyvon Williams comes in with a pair of sacks. Veteran kicker Ernesto Lacayo is among the best in indoor football.
