Wranglers 30, Knight Hawks 20

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - The Northern Arizona Wranglers' found and early three-game homestand on their schedule, and now they have swept those three games.
The Wranglers improved to 3-1 with their 30-20 win over the Vegas Knight Hawks tonight at Findlay Toyota Center. The Knight Hawks fell to 2-3 and have lost three of their last four. Northern Arizona now sits in second in the IFL's Western Conference.
This was the second of three meetings between the teams this season. The Knight Hawks held off the Wranglers, 22-9, on March 18 to earn their first win as a franchise. The teams meet again on May 8 at Henderson, Nevada.
It was a defensive battle in the first half. The Knight Hawks scored first on a 24-yard field goal from Nolan Kohorst just under six minutes into the contest. Kaleb Barker's 24-yard scoring lob to Quentin Randolph gave the Wranglers the lead midway through the opening quarter. Northern Arizona led 7-3 at the end of one.
Defense was fully on display in the second quarter as the only score in the stanza came when Jayru Henderson found Elad Covaliu in the back of the end zone. Vegas led 10-7 at the break.
The Wranglers went on a 20-3 run to start the second half. They scored on a 25-yard pass from Barker to Stanley "Boom" Williams, but the two-point conversion pass failed. The Knight Hawks tied the game with a 23-yard field goal from Kohorst with 7:07 left in the third. Williams' two-yard run put the Wranglers up by a touchdown just before the end of the quarter. Northern Arizona led 20-13 heading into the final quarter.
Mercardo Anderson intercepted Henderson and ran it in for a 22-yard pick-six to put the Wranglers up by two touchdowns two minutes into the fourth. Henderson's 11-yard throw to Jordan McCray with 10:13 left pulled Vegas to within one score. Dezmond Epps intercepted Barker in the end zone and returned it to the Wranglers' 15-yard line with an opportunity to score. After a pair of false start penalties, Kare Lyle's throw on fourth down went into no-man's land and the Wranglers had the bacll back with just under three minutes to go. Brandon Fischer's 35-yard field goal with 51 seconds to go put the Wranglers up 30-20. Vegas looked to move downfield, but Anderson picked off Lyles to end the Knight Hawk's drive with 30 seconds remaining.
Barker tossed two touchdown passes for the Wranglers. Williams caught one of those scores and rushed for another. Randolph had a touchdown grab and Anderson intercepted two balls.
Henderson threw for a pair of touchdowns, to Covaliu and McCray. Kohorst nailed two field goals for the Knight Hawks.
