Breakdown
GLADIATORS
Duke City has resurrected its 2022 season after three straight loss to open it. The Gladiators have won two straight and hope to even up their record with a revenge win against the Fighters. With a win over the Bay Area Panthers and a last-minute victory over the Tucson Sugar Skulls, the Gladiators may have put together some momentum heading into this game. They have outscored their opponents 107-80 in the wins, with last week's 57 points being a season-high. Losing last year's passing leader in quarterback Nate Davis didn't help matters, but Ramone Atkins has stepped in admirably in the past few weeks. In just three games, Atkins is completing 62 percent of his throws for 526 yards with 13 touchdowns and a lone interception. He also has two rushing touchdowns. Devontae Jackson also has a pair of scores on the ground. Dello Davis leads all IFL receivers with 28 grabs for 339 yards and nine scores, and Jared Elmore comes in with 21 catches for 247 yards and seven touchdowns. Jayson Serda and Byron Cooper lead the team with 29 and 28 tackles, respectively, with the latter recording a pair of sacks. Jimmy Thomas leads the team with three sacks. Cody Barber is a veteran who can make a clutch kick at any point of a game.
FIGHTERS
Frisco fell to the defensing Massachusetts Pirates in their season opener. Since then, they've won four straight. That's the second-longest streak in the IFL next to the Arizona Rattlers who have claimed their first five victories of the season. They look to continue that streak with a win over the Gladiators; a team to which they've never lost. The Fighters are putting it together on both sides of the ball. They won their first five games of 2021 and can match that streak with a win. Head coach Billy Back's crew has done it with a split-quarterback set up. Blake Sims gets the majority of the snaps and completes 72 percent of his passes for 549 yards with 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. T.J. Edwards has five touchdown tosses to his credit. Justin Rankin's 332 rushing yards are, by far, the tops in the IFL, and he is tied for the lead in touchdowns with eight. He also has two scoring catches. The receiving group is a little young and raw, Mark Munson leads the group, along with Laquvionte Gonzalez. The defense has been stout with Trey Wafford leading the way with 21 tackles and an interception. Former Massachusetts Pirate Santos Ramirez had 19 tackles and three interceptions, while Cendric Poole also has 19 tackles. Kicker Bryce Crawford is known for game-winning kicks.
