Breakdown
KNIGHT HAWKS
Vegas comes into this game limping just a little bit, particularly at the quarterback position. After Jaylon Henderson left to sign a contract in Japan, Kare Lyles took over as the starter last week at Green Bay. Lyles, officially listed as a wide receiver, suffered a knee injury in the second quarter. He was replaced by wide receiver Frank Brown, who led the team to 25 second-half points. There has been no word on whether Lyles will return and no transaction listing regarding signing a new quarterback. Brown is the team's top receiver, so moving him to quarterback could hurt the team's depth at receiver. This will serve as a pretty good size question mark for the Knight Hawks coming into this game. Brown threw for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the loss to the Blizzard. Much could fall on to the shoulders of Elad Covaliu, who had four rushing touchdowns and a receiving score. Dez Epps is a reliable receiver and end zone target, and KD Cannon has been a bright spot for Vegas in the offense. Jericho Flowers is a staunch defender which leads a defense which is among the best in the league in points allowed. Kalen Hicks and Kyree McLean are also playmakers on defense. Nolan Kohorst provides the kicking punch for the Knight Hawks.
PIRATES
Massachusetts, the defending champion, has looked strong this season. With the exception of week 6's overtime loss to the Green Bay Blizzard, the Pirates are in prime position to make some noise as the season nears its mid-way point. Unsurprisingly, they are looked in a battle with the Frisco Fighters for first place in the Eastern Conference. They're just a half game back of the Fighters by virtue of having played one fewer game. The Pirates are averaging 37.4 points per game while allowing just 31.0. Alejandra Bennifield seems to get better each week. He comes in completing 62 percent of his passes for 663 yards with 15 touchdowns and three picks. He has also rushed for a pair of scores. Bennifield missed last week's game due to an illness, but likely will be back for this one. If not, expect to see Mike Glass III at the helm. Martez Carter rushes for 21.6 yards per game. Thomas Owens is a dynamic receiver who is second in the IFL with 375 yards and nine touchdown passes, and Isaac Zico has 181 yards and three scores. Aarion Maxey-Penton and Lukas Denis each enter the game with three pics. Khalid Wooten leads the defense with 25 tackles and Koby Quansah leads the team with three sacks. This is Craig "The Leg" Peterson's second game as a Pirate.
