Breakdown
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona can win the season series over the Panthers with a win here. These teams have played twice already this season with each team winning at home. The Wranglers have looked strong in their past three games, averaging 46.5 points in those contests. Last week's 62 points were a season-high, though it came in a loss to their in-state rivals, the Tucson Sugar Skulls. Winners of three of their last four, Northern Arizona has an opportunity to bounce back in this one. Kaleb Barker is an up-and-coming young quarterback who comes in completing 59 percent of his throws for 640 yards with 13 touchdowns and four picks. He also leads the team in rushing with 179 yards and three scores. Though not a big rushing team, Stanley "Boom" Williams has a team-high four touchdowns on the ground. Quentin Randolph 20 catches for 302 yards and seven touchdowns lead the receiving group. Expect to see Glen Gibbons and Ulice Gillard be targeted in the passing game as well. Mercardo Anderson's 27 tackles and three interceptions lead the defense, while Jaquan Artis leads the league with four sacks. Marquis Bridges and Kenton Bartlett are also active on the defensive side. Brandon Fischer is on hand to take care of the kicking responsibilities.
PANTHERS
After defeating the San Diego Strike Force in the season opener, Bay Area has dropped five straight; all by at least 22 points. The Panthers are back home after a loss at Sioux Falls to the Storm looking to get back in the win column. This is the first of two home games before they enter a bye week when they can rest up and retool. The Panthers average 31.8 points per game, but allow 51.4 points per game. The team shook things up this week as they release starting quarterback Cory Murphy and signed Isaac Hurd, formerly of the American West Football Conference's Idaho Horsemen. Joe Newman was Murphy's backup and could start, or Hurd could be inserted into the lineup. Newman is more of a rusher at the position, but has had some bright spots in spot duty thus far. Duane Gary averages 31.5 rushing yards per game to go along with four touchdowns. Daniel Crowell, Jr. has been a positive addition to the receiving group. Kameron Pleasant and Deondre Douglas fill out that trio. Derik Calhoun and Jeffrey Allison lead the Panthers' defense, while Raysean Pringle is a ball hawk who always seems to find himself near it by the end of any given play. Stevie Artique has been effective in the kicking game for the Panthers all season.
