Breakdown
PIRATES
Massachusetts suffered a setback last in its bid to repeat as IFL champions last week as they fell to a resurgent Vegas Knight Hawks team at home. The Pirates have now dropped two of their last three after starting the season 3-0. Their two wins were by a touchdown in overtime in week 6 and by just two points to Vegas. They are in the middle of the IFL pack in scoring (38.5 points per game) and fourth in points allowed (33.5). Alejandro Bennifield comes in completing 63 percent of his passes for 835 yards, 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He is the team leader in rushing with 114 yards and five touchdowns. Martez Carter is the lead back, averaging 21.6 yards per game. Thomas Owens continues to be one of the top receivers in the IFL with his 30 receptions for 397 yards and nine scores. Isaac Zico has 229 yards of 19 grabs with four touchdowns. The defense is led by Khalid Wooten and Koby Quansah with 29 tackles apiece. The latter also has three sacks. Aarion Maxey-Penton is as good as it gets in the defensive backfield with 26 tackles and three picks. Craig "The Leg" Peterson has a strong leg in the kicking game.
STRIKE FORCE
San Diego looked strong last week, particularly in the first half, in a 10-point win over the Bismarck Bucks. The Strike Force took a 21-0 lead late in the first quarter and held the Bucks at bay in the second half. While they have struggled at times, they seem to be coming together and improving week-by-week. Hosting the defending champions will be their biggest test yet. San Diego is scoring 34.8 points per game and is allowing 48.7 points per game. Steve Cluley has firmly taken hold of the quarterback position. He is completing 50 percent of his passes for 603 yards, 12 touchdowns and a quartet of interceptions. Trevon Van has appeared in four games, rushing for 21.0 yards per with five touchdowns. Rashad Ross' 222 yards and five touchdowns lead all receivers. Marques Rodgers has 180 yards and two touchdowns, and Troy Evans scored two of his four touchdowns last week. David Haney has 25 tackles and two interceptions to pace the defense. Daquan "Cheetah" Brown adds 22 tackles and an interception, while Javian Williams has the lone sack for the defense this season. Tanner Kuljian has been solid as the Strike Force kicker.
