Breakdown
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson shocked the IFL world last week with its confident win over the previously undefeated Arizona Rattlers. The Rattlers looked as if they may run the the table until running into the Sugar Skulls last week. It was the first time in eight attempts that they won against their in-state-rivals. Tucson is a bit of a paradox as they lead score an IFL-best 55.4 points per game, but allow an IFL-worst 57.1. Daquan Neal has been impressive at the Sugar Skulls quarterback this season, but the team will be without him as he will be attending a tryout with the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL. That means Gabriel Cunningham will make his first start. Mike Brown leads the league in rushing touchdowns with 13, and is fifth with 264 yards on the ground. Arthur Jackson and Quinten Pedroza come in with 328 and 326 receiving yards, respectively. Jackson has 11 scoring grabs. Mike Carrigan adds 264 receiving yards with seven scores. Connor Taylor leads the defense with 26 tackles along with a pair of sacks. Ronald Collins has 19 tackles with a team-high 3.5 sacks. Logan Justus in on hand to take care of the kicking duties for the Sugar Skulls.
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona is the surprise team in the IFL this season. After finishing just 1-13 in their inaugural 2021 season, they are 5-2 and on the young season. Head coach Les Moss has his team on track to compete for not only a playoff spot, but an opening round home playoff contest. The Wranglers lone win of 2021 came over the Sugar Skulls. They are scoring 42.0 points per game (fourth) and are allowing the fewest points per game (29.3). Kaleb Barker is leading the league with 1,118 yards passing and is tied for third with 22 touchdown tosses. He is far and away the top rusher on the team with 36.9 yards per game to go along with six touchdowns. Stanley "Boom" Williams has six scores on the ground, and another three through the air. Quentin Randolph i and has on pace for a 1,00-plus yard receiving season, and leads the league with 12 touchdown grabs. Glen Gibbons adds 229 yards receiving and four scores. Mercardo Anderson comes in with a league-high six interceptions to go with 20 tackles. JaQuan Artis leads the league with seven sacks and has 26 tackles. Brandon Fischer is solid as the team's kicker.
