Breakdown
PIRATES
Massachusetts are the defending champions, but there have been some cracks in the ship at times. Unexpected losses to the Green Bay Blizzard and Vegas Knight Hawks have slowed the Pirates' momentum some, but they bounded back after a win over the San Diego Strike Force last week. They should be ready for this United Bowl rematch. The Pirates are scoring 40.3 points per game (sixth) and allowing 33.0 (fourth). Alejandro Bennifield has been solid all season as the Pirates' quarterback. He is completing 63 percent of hsi passes for 835 yards with 17 touchdowns and three picks. He also rushes for nearly 23 yards per game and has seven scores. Deddrick Thomas is averaging 23.5 yards per game with a pair of scores. Thomas Owens is third in the league with 408 receiving yards and tied for second with 11 touchdowns. Isaac Zico adds 24 catches for for 286 yards and five touchdowns. Khalid Wooten's 34 tackles lead the defense. Lukas Dennis comes in 30 tackles and a team-high three interceptions, and Koby Quansah adds three sacks and 29 tackles. Craig "The Leg" is among the better kickers in the IFL.
RATTLERS
In last week's Arizona breakdown, I mentioned the possibility of an undefeated season for the team. Perhaps it was a jinx, as the Rattlers suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Tucson Sugar Skulls. This week, they are back home to face the Pirates; the team which defeated them at home in the United Bowl last September. The Rattlers score 55.1 points per game (second) and allow 31.6 points (third). Drew Powell leads the league in completing 70.5 percent of his passes, and is second with 1,029 passing yards. He also is tied for the league lead with 26 touchdowns. He also rushes for 39.7 yards per game along with six touchdowns. Shannon Brooks rushes for 43.8 yards par game and has six touchdowns. Braxton Haley leads the receiving group with 382 yards and seven touchdowns. Jamal Miles has 225 yards and five scores, and Troy Pelletier adds four touchdown grabs. Davontae Merriweather's 51 tackles lead the team, while Kyree Woods has four interceptions to go along with 38 tackles. Treyvon Williams has 30 tackles and three sacks. Ernesto Lacayo possesses a strong leg as the Rattlers' kicker.
