Breakdown
PANTHERS
Bay Area has dropped eight straight and a visit to Arizona has to be a daunting proposition. The Panthers aren't just dropping games; they're dropping them badly. They've been outscored by 79 points in three losses in May alone. They do, however, have an opportunity to provide the biggest shock of the season if they were to beat the Rattlers. They score 29.7 points per game (14th) and allow 52.2 (12th). Joe Newman has led the team the past several weeks at quarterback. He is completing 37 percent of his throws for 387 yards with seven touchdowns and six picks. He rushes for 32.8 yards per game with four scores. The team may turn over the reigns to recently re-signed veteran Vincent Espinoza. Duane Gary provides a punch in the running game and leads Bay Area with nine rushing touchdowns. Kameron Pleasant, Daniel Crowell, Jr. and Deondre Douglas each have over 200 yards receiving. Pleasant leads the group with 8 scoring grabs. Derik Calhoun's 60 tackles lead the team, while Jeffrey Allison adds 48. Karmah Yates has recorded three sacks and Raysean Pringle has three interceptions. Stevie Artigue has been a bright spot as the team's kicker.
RATTLERS
Arizona is in an unfamiliar position having lost two of the last three and their first at home this season a week ago. The Rattlers will look to get back on track after their three-point loss to the Frisco Fighters last week. They are locked in a tie for first place in the Western Conference with the Northern Arizona Wranglers. The Rattlers are scoring a league-high 54.4 points per game and are allowing 33.1 (33.1). Drew Powell has been one of the best in the game for the past four seasons. He comes in just two passing yards shy of the league lead and is second in the league with 28 touchdown throws against six interceptions. Powell is rushing for 30.3 yards per game with 11 touchdowns. Shannon Brooks comes in rushing for 36 yards per game, along with eight touchdowns. Braxton Haley is among the league leaders in receiving with 51.3 yards per game, and adds eight touchdowns. Jamal Miles is utilized often in both the passing and rushing games. Davontae Merriweather comes in leading the team with 58 tackles, while Kyree Woods has four interceptions, and Treyvon Williams has the same number of sacks. Ernesto Lacayo is consistent at kicker.
