Breakdown
RATTLERS
Arizona finds itself in an uncommon position heading into the last quarter of the regular season. That is, namely, second place in the Western Conference. The Rattlers' heartbreaking loss last week at the Northern Arizona Wranglers put them a game out of first place in the Eastern Conference. The visit a Gladiators team to which they've never lost. The Rattlers score 53.8 points per game (first) and allow 31.6 (second). Drew Powell has been one of the top quarterbacks in the IFL for a few years now. He is completing 65 percent of his throws for a league-high 1,723 yards with 35 touchdowns and six interceptions. He rushes for 37.8 yards per game with 15 touchdowns. Shannon Brooks rushes for 34.1 yards and 13 scores. Braxton Haley is third in the IFL with 565 receiving yards to go with 11 touchdowns. Jamal Miles adds 496 yards and eight touchdowns. Davontae Merriweather's 54 tackles lead the team, while Treyvon Williams has 51 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. Dillon Winfrey has picked off six opponents' passes, which is tops in the IFL. Ernesto Lacayo has struggled at times, but has a history of hitting the big kick at any time.
GLADIATORS
Duke City is seemingly in a battle for the third playoff spot in the Western Conference with the Tucson Sugar Skulls. For all intents and purposes, the Gladiators cannot earn the top spot, but with a win against the Rattlers, they could take a step closer to earning the second seed. They need to win and get some help from other teams facing the Rattlers. They score 42.6 points per game (fourth) and allow 41.4 (11th). Despite playing two fewer games than the Rattlers' Powell, Ramone Atkins has 1,676 passing yards (league-high 167.6 per game) and leads the league with 39 scoring tosses. He also has rushed for a dozen touchdowns. Devonte Jackson rushes for nearly 30 yards a game with seven touchdowns. Dello Davis leads the league 736 yards rushing (with 11 scores) which is flirting with a 1,000-yard season. Jared Elmore has 560 yards and 15 touchdowns, while Gregory Dent, Jr. has 496 yards and 12 grabs. Byron Cooper leads the defense with 59.5 tackles and 6.5 sacks, and 14.5 tackles for loss. Jayson Serda adds 44 tackles and four sacks, while Dexter Reese has a team-high three interceptions. Veteran Kevin Goessling is the teams kicker.
