Breakdown
PIRATES
Massachusetts controls its own playoff destiny. The Pirates are in second in the Eastern Conference standings, which is the highest spot they would be able to earn since the Frisco Fighters have already clinched the conference title. They can drop no further than third, which would mean traveling in the open round. Second earns them homefield advantage to start the playoffs. They score 40.6 points per game (eighth) and allow 37.6 (fifth). Tasleem Wilson has led the Storm to wins in three of their last four games. He is completing 63 percent of his throws for 714 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions, and six rushing scores. Deddrick Thomas has five touchdowns as the featured back. Thomas Owens is the IFL's top receiver with 61 catches for 842 yards and 20 touchdowns (tied). Darren Carrington II and Isaac Zico each have over 400 yards, and 11 and seven scores, respectively. Aarion Macey-Penton, Reggie Floyd, Chucky Williams and Khalid Wooten each have over 40 tackles. Maxey-Penton adds five interceptions and Da'Sean Downey has five sacks. Veteran Josh Gable is the team's kicker.
PANTHERS
Bay Area has had a disappointing inaugural season to say the least. The Panthers face the defending champions for the first-ever time with a chance to play playoff spoiler. They are likely looking at their final two games as auditions and a tune up for next season. Head coach Kurt Bryan has several options as to approach this game, which makes this interesting. They are last in both offense and defense (28.8 and 55.7 points per game, respectively). Vincent Espinoza and Isaac Hurt shared time at quarterback last week, so it will be unclear which one gets the start here. Both are likely to get some snaps in this contest. Duane Gary had been one of the bright spots with his 402 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. Daniel Crowell, Jr. leads the team in receiving with 431 yards and eight touchdowns. Dre'Sonte Dorton should also figure in to the passing game. Derick "DJ" Calhoun leads the defense with 73 tackles, seven tackles for loss and an interception. Jeffrey Allison has 36.5 tackles and a sack, and Karmah Yates leads the team with three sacks. Stevie Artigue has been a bright spot at kicker.
