BREAKDOWN
Massachusetts one the IFL championship in 2021 and has made the playoffs in each of its three seasons in the league. Over the past couple of years, however, the Pirates have been unable to get over the hump and return to the title game. Former Bismarck Bucks head coach Rod Miller takes the helm to try and accomplish just that. Alejandro Bennifield has re-signed with the team after dealing with injuries over the past two seasons. Bennifield was the MVP in the Pirates' 2021 United Bowl win over the Arizona Rattlers. A pair of rookie running backs, Darius Clark and Tavion Thomas are in camp, but it's unknown which will get the lion's share of carries at the positon. Among the players who appear to be back from last year are stalwart receivers Thomas Owens and Isaac Zico familiar with Bennifield's style of play. Defensive lineman Marcus Webb, Jr. and linebacker Calvin Bundage are the returnees, and standout defensive back Eugene Ford was signed as a free agent from the Sioux Falls Storm.

BREAKDOWN
Green Bay is looking for big things this year and they might just deliver. For the first time in at least seven years, the Blizzard return a starting quarterback from the previous season. Max Meylor will have had nearly a full season of starts and a full training camp as he leads the team on to the field in 2024. He'll likely have to engineer the offense with a young supporting cast as the training camp roster was filled primarily with rookies at running back and wide receiver. Trent Clark returns as the center which should lead to some stability up front. Defensively, that's where the core of this team is. Defensive backs Ravarius Rivers and Shawn Steele II are more than capable of breaking up plays, and the team traded for linebacker James Jones from Sioux Falls. Jones is one of the best in the business. There aren't a lot of returnees to this team, but the quality of them is there.
