BREAKDOWN
Jacksonville makes its IFL debut after six seasons in the National Arena League (not counting the 2020 season which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Prior to 2017, the Sharks were members of the Arena Football League beginning in 2010. In all, they have four championships under their belt; one in the AFL and three in the NAL. The most recent is last season in the latter league. Head coach Jason Gibson will work to get his team ready for this opener with a bit of an unknown roster. Conor Blount is a veteran who we'll predict to be the starter, though Eddie Brill, Jr. Logan Wright is the lone running back on the roster, and Kamrin Solomon is a veteran receiver who can also slip into a defender's role if necessary. Defensively, the team appears to be loaded at linebacker with three such players on the roster. The key for the defense will be to adapt to the new rules of the IFL compared to what they knew before. The Sharks have a history of strong teams and look to continue that trend.

BREAKDOWN
It took Massachusetts a while to wake up from its offseason slumber, but they woke up in the second half in their opening win over the Green Bay Blizzard in week 1. The Pirates scored 22 points over the last twenty minutes, including the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds left, to rally for the win. It puts them on track to potentially regain their 2021 championship run. Alejandro Bennifield is back as the quarterback for the offense, and has plenty of targets around him. Jimmie Robinson returns at running back and is a threat in the rushing and passing games. The Pirates also return their top two receivers from last season, Isaac Zico and Thomas Owens. Zico, in particular did not disappoint in the opener. Teo Redding will also see targets in this game. The Pirates' defensive attack was a full team effort. The core and experience of the group is in the defensive backfield with Matt Elam, Eugene Ford, Momodou Mbye and Devin Hafford. Elam recorded the team's first interception of 2024 last week.
