BREAKDOWN
San Antonio’s offense is not in question. So far this season, it’s been the defense which has had trouble stopping opposing offenses. That was not the case last week as the team picked up its first win in the IFL since joining the league this year. That defense held the Tucson Sugar Skulls scoreless in the first quarter and to just 14 points in the first half. The Gunslingers look to replicate that against an explosive Fighters team which they will face two weeks in a row. These two matchups may well become known as The Battle for Texas. Sam Castronova leads the IFL with 20 touchdown throws and nearly 186 yards per game. He’s third in the league with a completion percentage of 69.1. All that, and just a single interception on the year. Add to that his 32.5 yards per outing and seven touchdowns on the ground. Keyshawn Harper is a solid running back who makes an impact in the passing game with five touchdown catches to go with two on the ground. DJ Myers leads Gunslingers’ receivers with 17 catches for 236 yards to go with three scores Nyquan Murray has six touchdown receptions, and Kali Rashaad comes in with four. Austin Upshaw rounds out the group, which should see plenty of targets from Castronova. Tristan Vance’s 18.5 tackles lead the team, and Giovanni Sanders adds 11.5 and an interception. TC Stevens’s kickoff average is 50.0 yards to go along with seven deuces. The Gunslingers score 53.8 points per game (1st) and allow 57.8 (16th).

BREAKDOWN
Frisco seems to be getting stronger with each game. In what was anticipated to be a somewhat close contest, the Fighters offense exploded against a Tulsa Oilers’ defense which is the cornerstone of the team. The offense seems to really be on a roll and the newly found Gunslingers’ defense will have its hands full wire-to-wire. The Fighters are the lone undefeated team in the Eastern Conference and just one of three left in the IFL. This and next week’s game against the Gunslingers will be a solid test as they enter the playoff hunt. TJ Edwards is back to his 2023 MVP form. He leads the league with a 74.5 percent completion rate and has eight touchdowns against just one interception. He’s even more potent on the ground where he is averaging 61.3 yards per game (second among IFL quarterbacks) and tops the league with 14 touchdowns. He has some help with Martez “Meatball” Carter averaging 60.5 yards per game and three touchdowns. While the Fighters don’t throw as much as some other teams, they have a talented receiving group. Cole Blackmon leads the team with five scoring catches, while Devon McCoy has nine catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Spencer Tears also comes in with a scoring catch. Ethan Caselberry’s 18.5 tackles lead the group, and Royce See has 15.5. Lionel McConnell is the league co-leader with four interceptions. Bryce Crawford averages 47.8 yards per kickoff and has a deuce. The Fighters average 48.5 points per game (T-fourth) and allow 34.8 (second).
