Breakdown
GLADIATORS
Duke City has won two of its last three games and came just a point away from another win as they were clipped by the Frisco Fighters. After a rough 0-3 start, the Gladiators are hoping to go on a run as they face four straight opponents with sub-.500 records. They defeated the Sugar Skulls in a nailbiter two weeks ago at Tucson, 57-52, and hope to sweep the season series with a win in this game. Gladiators are looking at the second of a four-game road trip. Ramone Atkins, who had never played indoor football a month ago, has settled in nicely as Duke City's quarterback. He is completing 62 percent of his passes for 739 yards with 16 touchdowns and a single interception, and has rushed for four scores. Though the Gladiators are typically more of a pass-oriented team, Devonte Jackson has gained 143 yards on the ground with three scores. Dello Davis is a standout receiver with 410 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, while Jared Elmore has 374 yards and nine scores. Each have caught 32 balls. Byron Cooper's 36 tackles and two sacks lead the defense. Jayson Serda and Dexter Reese have 29 and 27 tackles, respectively, and Jimmy Thomas adds 22 tackles and three sacks. Veteran Cody Barber handles the kicking duties for the Gladiators.
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson's 10-point home win over the Northern Arizona Wranglers snapped a three-game losing streak. It also put the Sugar Skulls back in the early season playoff race, just a game behind the Wranglers for second place in the Western Conference. The Sugar Skulls score more points per game than any other team in the IFL at 54.4. Conversely, they allow more points per game than any other IFL team at 56.2. Closing that gap would go a long way in stringing together some wins. Daquan Neal has been effective in his first season with the Sugar Skulls. He comes in completing 69 percent of his throws for 770 yards and 17 touchdowns against one interception. He also has rushed for nine touchdowns. Mike Jones is a tough rusher who averages 35.2 yards per game to go along with 10 touchdowns. Arthur Jackson leads the receiving group with 24 grabs for 281 yards and eight touchdowns. Quinton Pedroza has 222 receiving yards and three scores, while Carrington Thompson, Sr. owns 209 yards though the air with five scores. Ronald Collins has recorded 16 tackles three sacks for the defense, while Rayshad Jackson adds 13 tackles and a pair of sacks and Maurice Jackson has an interception. Logan Justus is averaging 49 yards per kickoff.
