Breakdown
BARNSTORMERS
Iowa controls its own playoff destiny. A win here and the Barnstormers are in. A loss and a Sioux Falls Storm loss to the Frisco Fighters on July 16, and the Barnstormers are in. If they both lose, Iowa punches a ticket to the postseason. The only scenario where they miss the playoffs is if they lose, the Storm win and the Tucson Sugar Skulls win over the Bay Area Panthers. The opportunity is there, they just have to take advantage. They are scoring 40.5 points per game (ninth) and allowing 37.5 (sixth). Darius-James Peterson has started every game this season. He is completing 56 percent of his throws for 1,755 yards, 28 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He has rushed for 799 yards and 15 scores. Antonio Wimbush has 547 yards on the ground with 19 touchdowns. Kentrez Bell, Dom McNeil and Alvin Bailey make up a talented trio of receivers with the former two combining for over 800 yards and 18 touchdowns. The defense is led by Ian McBurrough with 82.5 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions. JR Stevens and Justic'e King come in with six and four interceptions, respectively, and Dave Calderon leads the team with 3.5 sacks. Gabriel Rui has been solid as the team's kicker all season.
STEAMWHEELERS
Quad City finds itself in a precarious position. There are three scenarios in which the Steamwheelers earn a playoff spot -- all of which require them winning this game. A Storm win and a Sugar Skulls loss does it. Both other opportunities require the Storm to lose regardless of the Tucson-Bay Area outcome. They were eliminated in similar fashion in the final week of the 2019 season. They score 41.5 points per game (tied sixth) and allow 40.4 (eighth). E.J. Hilliard has been excellent since returning to the team with his 60 percent completion percentage for 1,490 yards, 29 touchdowns and nine picks. He rushes for 53.4 yards per game to go with 24 touchdowns. Kerrion Moore adds six scores on the ground. Mike Carrigan leads the receiving group with 43 catches for 585 yards and 13 touchdowns, with Keyvan Rudd coming in just behind with 37 grabs for 503 yards and eight scores. The defense is paced by Nathan Sheets' 82.5 tackles and nine tackles for loss. He also has two picks and a sack. Naquez Pringle leads the team with four sacks. Teon Burroughs and Jaylin Swan have three sacks apiece. Kimo Naehu is has been not only reliable this season, but has been a bright spot for the Steamwheelers this season.
