Breakdown
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson started its season off on the right foot with a quality road win over the San Diego Strike Force. That should prove as additional motivation as the Sugar Skulls face their in-state rival the Rattlers. The team possesses an abundance of talent which should translate into some wins. Former Duke City Gladiator Ramone Atkins went 15 of 24 for 137 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the opener. He also rushed for another score. Mike Jones rushed for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also can be a force in the passing game. Darian Patterson and Carrington Thompson, Sr. each had five receptions and a touchdown against the Strike Force with 57 and 52 yards, respectively. Mike Minter comes in with 9.5 tackles, and Trae'varis Ferrell has 8.5. J.J. Dallas and Rashie Hodge each recorded an interception in last week. Victor Leventritt made all five of his point-after attempts and averages 39 yards per kickoff.
RATTLERS
Arizona was likely in shock after the loss to the Bay Area Panthers two weeks ago. The Rattlers are coming off a bye, but will enter this contest without their regular starting quarterback, Drew Powell, who was placed on short term injured reserve. Enter Jorge Reyna who started for the San Diego Strike Force late last season. Reyna put up some good numbers for San Diego last year, and should be in position to do so again in the Rattlers' offense. Jager Gardner has three rushes on the ground through two games. Braxton Haley enters this game with nine catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and Jamal Miles has four grabs for 62 yards and another two scores. Isiah Scott adds six catches for 59 yards and a score. Veterans Davontae Merriweather and Dillon Winfrey's 12.5 tackles pace the defense. Jacobi Taylor and Chris Terrell have nine and 7.5 tackles respectively. Craig Peterson's averages 52.8 yards per kickoff.
