Breakdown
GLADIATORS
Duke City is 2-1 and chomping at the bit to earn its first win over the Rattlers in this eighth matchup between the teams in the series history. The Gladiators have a strong offense, but their defense has struggled a tad during the first three games of the season. Nate Davis is, arguably, the top passer in the IFL. He leads the league with 521 yards and 14 touchdowns, while completing 67.6 percent of his passes. Shamelle Dumas has rushed for a pair of touchdowns, and Anthony Segura has found the end zone once. Gary Brown leads the receiving group with 18 catches for 199 yards and six touchdowns, and Xavier Amey comes in with 16 grabs for 197 yards and five scores. Jason Serda leads the IFL with 25.5 tackles and has 1.5 sacks on the young season. Dexter Reese adds 13.5 tackles and three interceptions, and Roderick Chapman has 13 tackles and two picks. Byron Cooper has 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Ernesto Lacayo, averaging 52.8 yards per kickoff, already has a couple of deuces this season.
RATTLERS
For the first since February of 2017, Arizona has lost two straight games. The Rattlers, who have never lost to the Gladiators, will look to get back in the win column when Duke City comes to town. They average 51 points per game and allow 51.3. Starting quarterback Drew Powell is on short-term IR which puts Jorge Reyna in the spotlight. Reyna had a productive outing last week by completing 55 percent of his passes for 242 yards with six touchdowns and an interception. Jager Gardner has rushed for 47 yards and four scores. Isiah Scott is tops in the IFL with 233 receiving yards to go with five scoring grabs. Braxton Haley adds 11 catches for 129 yards and three scores, and Jamal Miles has three touchdown catches. Davontae Merriweather and Dillon Winfrey enter the game with 15 and 14.5 tackles, respectively. J'Ravien Anderson has 9.5 takedowns in just two of the Rattlers' three games. Like Lacayo for the Gladiators, strong-legged Craig Peterson averages 52.8 yards per kickoff and is always a deuce threat.
