BREAKDOWN
Massachusetts came just a win over this same Sioux Falls team last week from hosting a playoff game. However, the Pirates were turned back by the Storm to set up this meeting back in southeastern South Dakota to open the postseason. If last week's regular season finale is any indication, IFL fans could be in for something special this Saturday night. The Pirates held a four-point lead, but a last-second Storm touchdown altered the final Eastern Conference standings. The Pirates have not won since a 19-point decision over the Tulsa Oilers on June 24. They dropped their final three games on the road. It's unclear whether Anthony Russo or Alejandro Bennifield will start at quarterback. Russo spend the majority of time under center this season, but Bennifield has playoff experience with the Steamwheelers. Jimmie Robinson led the league with 915 rushing yards to go with 28 touchdowns. They score 50.5 points per game (fourth in IFL) and allow 47.9 (ninth).

BREAKDOWN
Sioux Falls' fortunes changed with 11 seconds remaining in last week's home contest against the Pirates. It was veteran Lorenzo Brown' Jr.'s three-yard touchdown pass to Donnie Corley which elevated the Storm from fourth to second in the Eastern Conference. The win, coupled with the Quad City Steamwheelers' loss to the Tulsa Oilers, ensured the Storm a home game in this round of the playoffs. They face the Pirates for the second time in two weeks. They've won five of their last seven contests (both wins came against the top-seeded Frisco Fighters) and would like to see that momentum continue in the playoffs. In the 14 seasons in which the league has featured playoffs (2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic), they Storm have missed the playoffs only last season. Xavier Jackson's return from injury gives them an extra punch on offense. James Brown and LaRonji Vason-McCoy finished second and third in tackles, respectively. They score 47.1 points per game (sixth in IFL) and allow 43.9 (fourth).
