BREAKDOWN
Massachusetts may be one of the more pleasant surprises in the IFL this season. Sure, the Pirates have a talented roster, but not many would necessarily anticipate them being undefeated going into this contest at Quad City. They have the third best defense in the league, but their offense ranks in the middle of the pack. That offense could be ready to explode under the right circumstance and this could be it. With a win, they would become the IFL’s first 5-0 team of 2024. Alejandra Bennifield, 2021 National Championship Game MVP, is tied for the league lead with 13 touchdowns passes. He is completing 65 percent of his throws for 124.3 yards per game and has thrown just two picks. He also had four rushing scores. With Jimmie Robinson out to injury, Tavion Thomas’ IFL debut was nothing short of amazing. The rookie back rushed for 120 yards off 18 carries with three touchdowns. Isaac Zico is the top dog at receiver with his 50.5 yards per game and five scoring grabs. Teo Redding comes in with 11 catches for 136 yards and three scores. Calvin Bundage leads the defense with 16 tackles and 2.5 sacks, and Devin Hafford’s adds 15.5 tackles. Eugene Ford owns three interceptions. Josh Gable averages 50.1 yards per game with a deuce to his credit. The Pirates average 43.3 points per game (ninth) and allow 32.8 (third).

BREAKDOWN
The has had its moments thus far this season, but just seem to be looking to get over the hump. The Steamwheelers are coming off a rough loss to the Frisco Fighters, but they do get this matchup against the Pirates at home. That could give them some extra incentive as they look to even out their record. While they allow the third least points per game in the league, their defense is in right in the middle of the pack. It may well be up to the offense to step up in order to win this one. Judd Erickson was having a solid season until reportedly going down to injury last week. Former Oregon Duck Mike Irwin stepped in admirably in the second half, completing 67 percent of his passes for two touchdowns and no picks. Edward Vander rushes the ball just enough to keep defenses honest and has four trips to the end zone to show for it. He has caught another two scores and 79 yards receiving. Keyvan “Stud” Rudd is the team’s top receiver with 12 catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Jarrod Harrington enters the game with nine grabs for 107 yards and two scores. Malik Duncan paces the Steamwheelers’ defense with 13.5 tackles, while KeShaun Moore adds 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Jaylin Swan also comes in with 11 tackles. Kyle Kaplan is averaging 51.6 yards per kickoff along with one deuce on the season. The Steamwheelers score 33.0 points per game (14th) and allow 39.3 (seventh).
