Gladiators 71, Wranglers 54
7/17/21 --
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - The Duke City Gladiators scored the most points by an Indoor Football League team this season as they downed the Northern Arizona Wranglers tonight at Findlay Toyota Center.
Duke City's 71-54 win surpassed the previous high for points this season which was set by the Sioux Falls Storm in their week 7 win over the Bismarck Bucks; a 64-28 decision on June 5. Coincidentally, the Wranglers' 54 points tonight was a season (and franchise) high for the organizaiton.
The Gladiators improved to 4-5 on the season and put them in position to compete for a playoff spot. They very well could make the jump into eighth place tomorrow depending on the result of the game between the Sioux Falls Storm and the Blizzard at Green Bay. The door on the Wranglers' playoff hopes closed a little further with the loss as they now stand at 1-8.
The game was relatively close throughout. Duke City led 20-13 at the end of a wild first quarter. They led 35-27 at intermission, before outscoring the Wranglers 23-21 in the third, and 13-6 in the final stanza to provide the margin of victory.
Duke City won both previous matchups this season; 34-17 on June 12 and 58-38 on July 3. The teams meet once more on August 7 at Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
The Wranglers visit the Frisco Fighters on July 24 with kickoff set for 5:05 p.m. The Gladiators are on the road as they face the Arizona Rattlers on July 24 for a 6:05 p.m. kickoff. All times listed are pacific daylight time. Click for the complete SCtoC 2021 Indoor Football League schedule.
