Breakdown
BUCKS
Bismarck showed great improvement from it's first IFL season in 2019. The Bucks won just two games that year, but rebounded to go 7-8 last season. Although falling to the eventual champion Massachusetts Pirates in the first round, head coach Rod Miller seems to have the team headed in the right direction. The Bucks completed a sweep of regional rival Green Bay Blizzard last year, 4-0. However, the roster is going to look majorly different. Largely rather lookin for IFL talent in free agency, the team looked at players from other leagues; indoor and outdoor. They did manage to secure IFL veteran twins Rob and Robert Brown. the running back and defensive back, respectively, have played for the Spokane Empire, Northern Arizona Wranglers and other IFL teams over the past few years. They also had former Blizzard defensive back Michael Johnson in training camp. The only quarterback on the roster is Tahj Tolbert, a rookie, though other signings at the position have yet to be reported. Also in camp were defensive lineman Patrick Macon and defensive back Kenneth McGruder; formerly of the National Arena League's Albany Empire.
BLIZZARD
After a resurgent 2019, Green Bay took a bit of a step back last season. The Blizzard finished out of the playoff hunt, but is itching to get back to the postseason in 2022. Corey Roberson is retooling his team to put them into the position to do just that. Going 0-4 against their regional rival Bucks was not a help. Roberson, the 2019 Coach of the Year in the IFL, has re-signed some key players; including a trio of defensive backs which should help to slow down opponents' passing games. Momodou Mbye, Rick Rumph and Mason Gray are a formidable trio in the defensive backfield and are among the more experienced group in the league. Over the past couple of seasons, defense has been the calling card of the Blizzard. They may get stronger in that area with another defensive back or two on the training camp roster which may make the team. On offense, Jack Sheehan and Torrance Gibson (also listed as a receiver) are on the camp roster at quarterback. It's not known if there is or are another competing for the job. The Blizzard are the second-longest tenured team in the IFL and are poised to emerge as a playoff and title contender in this, their 12th season.
