Breakdown
SUGAR SKULLS
Tucson is looking to get back on track after their heartbreaking, last-second loss to the San Diego Strike Force. The loss spoiled the Sugar Skulls' home opener, so they will be looking to reverse those fortunes. They have dropped two straight after opening their season with a nine-point win over the Vegas Knight Hawks. The Sugar Skulls were the last team to take the field after having byes in weeks 1 and 2. They swept the Gladiators last season, 3-0. Daquan Neal is completing 70 percent of his passes for an average of 156 yards per game with 10 touchdowns and a single interception. He also has a touchdown on the ground. Mike Jones is a bullish rusher who comes in with 39.3 yards per game and seven touchdowns. Arthur Jackson leads the receiving group with 19 catches for 210 yards and five touchdowns. Quinton Pedroza adds 126 yards and a score, while Carrington Thompson, Sr. has 74 yards and three touchdown grabs. Brandon Rowland and Connor Taylor have recorded 18 and 14 tackles, respectively. Denzel Chukwukelu has four tackles for loss. Logan Justus has been solid in the kicking game through three games.
GLADIATORS
Duke City picked up its first win of the season and will hope to continue the trend against the Sugar Skulls this week. Though the Gladiators are just 1-3 a quarter of the way though the season, two of those losses have come against the 4-0 Arizona Rattlers and the other against the 3-1 Frisco Fighters. it's been a rough start to the season, but there is definitely opportunity to turn things around. This is the last game of a three-game homestand before they head out for four straight road games. Ramone Atkins was at the helm last week in Duke City's win over the Bay Area Panthers. While he completed just 44 percent of his throws, he amassed 181 yards and five touchdowns, and added a rushing touchdown. Devontae Jackson, who has a pair of rushing touchdowns, should see some carries in this one. Dello Davis and Jared Elmore have 185 and 176 receiving yards, respectively, and five scoring grabs apiece. Gregory Dent, Jr. has 146 yards and two touchdowns. Byron Cooper has tallied 21 tackles and two sacks to lead the defense, and Jayson Serda comes in with 20 tackles and another sack. Cody Barber is solid as the team's kicker.
