Breakdown
PANTHERS
Bay Area looked solid and opportunistic in much of last week's loss to the Bismarck Bucks. The Panthers had tied it at 31-31 with 33 seconds to go until intermission, but some costly turnovers and lack of defensive stops in the second half proved to be their Achilles heel. They'll look to bounce back with a trip to Sioux Falls to face a Storm team which has dropped three straight. They will be playing their second game in five nights. Cory Murphy has had an up-and-down start to his season and has looked good at times this season, but has struggled at others. He is completing 52 percent of his passes for 304 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions (three against the Bucks). He also has three rushing scores. Joe Newman is a change-of-pace quarterback utilized in situational settings. He has four touchdowns and Duane Gary comes as the lead back with 113 yards with five trips to the end zone. Kameron Pleasant leads the receiving grou with 162 yards off 11 catches and a pair of touchdowns, while Daniel Crowell, Jr. has come on the last three games with 124 yards and three scores. Derik Calhoun leads the defense with 35 total tackles, and Jeffrey Allison adds 24. Raysean Pringle had a kickoff return for touchdown last week, and Stevie Artique is reliable in the kicking game.
STORM
After dropping three straight, Sioux Falls is on the outside looking in when it comes to the early playoff picture. Two of those wins came over the Iowa Barnstormers to whom they have lost the last six. This edition of Monday Night Football gives head coach Kurtiss Riggs and his staff a couple extra days to prepare for the Panthers, who played their strongest first half in last week's loss at home to the Bismarck Bucks. The Storm scored a season-high 38 points against the Bucks in week 3. With Tasleem Wilson released this week, Daniel Smith takes over as the next quarterback. He Smith played well against the Barnstormers, completing 20 of 31 passes for 207 yards with a pair of touchdowns, a pick and another score on the ground. Smith will get the start and should have some confidence knowing he is the team's quarterback. Veteran Dalton Sneed was signed as the team's backup. Nate Chavious is one of the better running backs in the league as a rusher, a receiver out of the backfield and as a kick returner. Carlos Thompson, Jr., Tim Keith and Kahliq Muhammad make up a formidable receiving trio for the Storm. Marquis Hendrix leads the team in tackles and sacks, while Paris Taylor and Famus Hasty are playmakers on defense. Sawyer Petre is arguably the top kicker on any team's IFL roster this season.
