Breakdown
PANTHERS
Bay Area has struggled through much of the first half of its inaugural season. The Panthers have dropped seven straight after winning the season opener at home. They have not had a defeat of less than 22 points. They are coming off a bye week in which they had a chance to retool some things and come out fresh. The Panthers are scoring 30.0 points per game (14th) and are allowing 52.3 (13th). Of late, Joe Newman has gotten the start at quarterback. In six appearances, he has 255 yards passing with six touchdowns and six interceptions. He leads the team in rushing at 33.3 yards per game with four scores. Duane Gary has tallied 211 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Kameron Pleasant leads the receiving group with 18 catches for 242 yards and seven touchdowns, while Daniel Crowell, Jr. has 18 grabs for 184 yards and four scores. Derik Calhoun leads the defense with 53 tackles, while Jeffrey Allison has 43 tackles and a sack. Rayseaon Pringle is a ball hawk who comes in with a team-high three interceptions. Stevie Artique has done a nice job of kicking for the Panthers this season.
WRANGLERS
Northern Arizona is the surprise story of the IFL this season. After snaring just a single win in their 2021 inaugural season, the Wranglers are 6-2 and just a game back of first place in the Western Conference. They have won three straight and six out of their last seven games and are poised to continue that trend. The Wranglers are scoring 42.8 points per game (fourth) and are allowing a league-low 29.4. Kaleb Barker has been efficient all season as the Wranglers' quarterback. He comes in completing 60 percent of his passes for 1,048 yards and is tied for fourth in the league with 23 touchdowns against six interceptions. He also averages 36.6 yards per game and has seven scores on the ground. Quintin Randolph is tied for the league lead with 471 receiving yards, but was placed on short-term IR May 19. Glen Gibbons adds 201 yards with four touchdowns. Mercardo Anderson's 49 tackles and four touchdowns lead the team, while JaQuan Artis had 5.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. Darin Hungerford adds 34 tackles for the defense. Brandon Fischer has been solid in Northern Arizona's kicking game.
