Breakdown
RATTLERS
Arizona finds itself in a battle with the Northern Arizona for the top spot in the Western Conference. The teams are each 8-2 apiece with team games between them remaining this season. Given the Rattlers and Panthers' success this season, this looks like a blowout on paper, but the Rattlers could be in trouble if it becomes a trap game. They have the league's top scoring offense at 52.8 points per game and are second in defense at 32.1. Drew Powell leads the IFL with 1,505 passing yards and his third with 30 touchdown tosses while completing 62.6 percent of his passes. He rushes for 36.3 yards per game with 13 scores. Shannon Brooks has been the lead back over the past several games, though the team signed Rattlers legend Darrell Monroe this week at the position. Braxton Haley's 487 receiving yards rank fourth in the league. Jamal Miles and Isaiah Huston also feature heavily in the passing game. Davontae Merriweather leads the defense with 50 tackles, and Trevon Williams has 46 takedowns, four sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. Kyree Woods and Dillon Winfrey each come in with four picks. Ernesto Lacayo is typically one of the more reliable kickers in the IFL.
PANTHERS
Bay Area has struggled this season. Aside from their season-opening win over the San Diego Strike Force, the Panthers have lost nine straight. Last week against the Rattlers, they were largely successful at slowing down the game. They fell by just 15 points, but held the Rattlers to a season-low of 38 points. They likely will continue that formula this week. The Panthers 29.0 points per game is last in the league. They allow 50.8 (12th). Joe Newman comes in completing just 40 percent of his passes, but went six of 10 for 85 yards last week. He has rushed for 280 yards along with four touchdowns. Veteran Vincent Espinoza could also get some reps in this one. Duane Gary leads the team with 32.6 rushing yards per game and 10 touchdowns. He had 48 yards and a score last week. Daniel Crowell, Jr. has emerged as the Panthers' leading receiver with 25 catches for 296 yards and a half-dozen touchdowns. Deondre Douglas has 20 grabs for 207 yards and a touchdown. Derik Calhoun and Jeffrey Allison pace the defense with 67 and 48 tackles, respectively. Karmah Yates adds three sacks. Stevie Artique has only gotten more effective in the kicking game as the season has progressed.
