Breakdown
BLIZZARD
Green Bay inched one step closer to a possible playoff spot last week with its 18-point win over the Quad City Steamwheelers. The Blizzard sit a game-and-a-half back of the Iowa Barnstormers and Sioux Falls Storm, who occupy the third and fourth spots in the Eastern Conference standings. A win could be key in the playoff race. They score 31.4 points per game (13th) and allow 30.8 (second). Jack Sheehan is as solid as they come at quarterback. He comes in completing 55 percent of his passes for 1,388 yards and is fourth in the IFL with 31 touchdowns against eight picks. He rushes for over 25 points per game to go with seven touchdowns. Tim Whitfield has a rushing score in each of his two games with the team. Keshaun Taylor leads the lead touchdown grabs with 16 to go along with 434 receiving yards. Shaquon Curenton and Steven Newbold each have over 300 yards and combine for 13 scores. The defense is led by the 95 touchdowns, 14.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions. Momodou Mbye adds 82 tackles, while Mason Gray has 63. Nick Jaworski is a talented kicker capable of making the key boot when needed.
PIRATES
Massachusetts is still on pace to make the playoffs, but could be in jeopardy of missing out on home field advantage. The Pirates lead the Barnstormers and Storm by just a single game after having gone 3-3 in their last six games. They are scoring 38.6 points per game (eighth) and are allowing 36.9 (sixth). With Alejandro Bennifield on short term IR, it will be up to either Mike Glass III or Tasleem Wilson to command the offense. Each have a single start to their credit this season, though Glass has thrown a pair of game-winning touchdowns in recent games. Wilson started last week and completed 67 percent of his throws for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Deddrick Thomas has five touchdowns and averages 28.6 yards on the ground. Thomas Owens is second in the IFL in receiving yards and touchdowns with 611 and 15, respectively. Isaac Zico and Darren Carrington II also figure heavily in the passing game. Lukas Denis comes in with 48 tackles and three interceptions to lead the defense. Aarion Maxey-Penton has accumulated four picks and 13 pass break ups. Josh Gable returned from injury last week to re-assume the kicking duties.
