BREAKDOWN
Tucson has had an up-and-down go of it during this early season. Just when it appeared the Sugar Skulls had things on track via a win over the Duke City Gladiators in week 4, they ran into the defending champion Bay Area Panthers at home last week. There is little cause for alarm this early in the season as Billy Back's team is still gaining some if its 2024 bearings. This matchup against the unfamiliar Gunslingers will be an interesting test for this young roster. Mylik Mitchell has been a nice surprise for the Sugar Skulls. He comes in competing 61 percent of his passes for an average of 133 yards per game with seven touchdowns and a pair of picks. He also rushes 67.3 yards per game to go along with nine touchdowns. Mike Jones is a bullish running back who averages 32.3 yards per game with three scores. Mike Carrigan is Mitchell's top target with his 11 catches for 144 yards. CJ Tate adds six catches for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Demario McCall has compiled four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. Brayden Utley leads the defense with 14.5 tackles, while Jaylen Floyd and Robert Sheffield have 11.5 and 11, respectively. Sheffield also has an interception. Demitri Fotinos averages 50.5 yards per kickoff. The Sugar Skulls score 45.0 points per game (seventh) and allow 49.3 (14th).

BREAKDOWN
San Antonio is still looking for its first win of the season and facing a Tucson team which has yet to fully figure out its identity could be the perfect opportunity. The Gunslingers have been in all three of their games in the fourth quarter, but seem to just be coming up short. The offense has been solid in each game, but it's been the defensive side where they have struggled. If that defense can get a couple of stops, the offense should be able to put enough points to engineer a win. Sam Castronova enters this game completing 65 percent of his throws for 201 yards per game to go with 13 touchdowns and one interception. He also rushes for 33.3 yards to go with six touchdowns. Keyshawn Harper has two touchdown runs and nine catches for 76 yards and four scores. Nyqwan Murray has caught a dozen passes for 57 yards per game and five touchdowns. DJ Myers adds 11 catches for 161 yards and two scores. Tristan Vance leads the defense with 13, while Giovonni Sanders has eight. The defense is still looking for its first sack and interception of the season. TC Stevens averages 48.5 yards on his kickoffs and has four deuces on the year. The Gunslingers are averaging 51.7 points per game (second) and allow 64.0 (16th).
