Breakdown
OILERS
Tulsa embarks on its first IFL season and will be put to the test by one of the league's top teams. Not a lot is known about head coach Marvin Jones' game strategy, but it's likely to be heavy on physicality and brute force at the line of scrimmage. That's been Jones' signature since becoming a coach in indoor football. Giovanni Sanders, who spent time with the Bismarck Bucks last season, and Bobby Froehlich are the quarterbacks on the roster, but Jones has not named a starter as of this writing. Wide receiver Dom McNeil has experience in indoor football, and offensive lineman Adrien Hernandez comes over from the Bay Area Panthers. A trio of defenders have been signed from other teams in the IFL from 2022l defensive linemen Eric Sadler (Tucson Sugar Skulls) and Caleb Wells (Sioux Falls Storm), and defensive back Britto Tutt. On this week's edition of Inside the IFL, coach called defensive end Jordan Jones a "phenomenal athlete and leader of a team."
FIGHTERS
Frisco started the season with a bang with a 76-30 win over the Green Bay Blizzard. The 76 points was the highest total in in Fighters' history. The previous high came last season in a 68-51 win at the Quad City Steamwheelers. Though it's a small sample size, T.J Edwards was spectacular in the season opener at Green Bay. He threw for 139 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 78 yards on a 5.6-yards per rush average and six touchdowns. Ed Wesley, who had three rushing touchdowns against the Blizzard, is a solid threat on the ground. Jerminic Smith and Spencer Tears are Edwards' top targets. B.J. Bunn should also factor into the passing attack for the Fighters. Defensively, Kordell Jackson was all over the field in the season opener. He recorded 10 total tackles, and interceptions and three pass break ups. Michael Lovett comes in with 4.5 tackles and a pair of interceptions, while Kyle Meyers also had a pick. Bryce Crawford provides kicking duties.
