BREAKDOWN
Tucson opened the season with a tough loss against in-state rival Northern Arizona Wranglers. There is a now-historic rivalry between the teams and the Sugar Skulls would have loved nothing more than to come away with the win. They'll have that chance this week against another regional rival in the Gladiators. Tucson reached the playoffs last season, but were eliminated in the opening round by the Bay Area Panthers. They look to go further this season. Mylik Mitchell made his first start against the Wranglers and completed 53 percent of his passes for 128 yards with a touchdown and a pick. He did most of his damage on the ground with four rushing touchdowns on 12 carries for 98 yards. The ever-steady Mike Jones rushed for 32 yards and a score. Mike Carrigan leads all receivers with four receptions for 58 yards, while Demarious McCall had two grabs for 37 yards and a touchdown. James Jackson and Darius Hatch each recorded 5.5 tackles in the opener, while Trae'varis Ferrell had two tackles for loss. Demitri Fotinos comes in with an impressive kickoff average of 48.3 yards.

BREAKDOWN
By some standards, Duke City is already in a bit of a hole after starting the season 0-2. The Gladiators have faced some talented opposition in the San Diego Strike Force and Frisco Fighters, a pair of teams who boast a 4-0 combined record. The Gladiators are hoping to get on the winning track and moving to 0-3 on the early season. Javin Kilgo has gotten the start in Duke City's first two games and comes in with a 49 percent completion rate and 135 yards per game. He's thrown seven touchdowns, but has five interceptions. Backup quarterback Taz Wilson steps in at running back from time to time and has the teams only rushing touchdown. Gourney Sloan averages 44 receiving yards per game and has a team-high four touchdown catches. Greg Dent, Jr. has caught five passes for 19.4 yards per catch. Aaron Jackson comes in leading the team with 15 tackles, while Jayson Serda adds 13.5 tackles to the mix. Tamar Hart and Malik McDowell have a sack apiece and Trevaughn Claybourne has the teams only interception. Ernesto Lacayo has a kickoff average of 57 yards and was five of five on dropkick extra points last week.
