Breakdown
STORM
Sioux Falls made the playoffs every single year of the current IFL's existence -- until last season. The 2023 campaign was a rough one for the Storm, even they finished the season 8-8. Head coach Kurtiss Riggs will have his team ready to embark on this season. That will start with the return of quarterback Lorenzo Brown, Jr.; a three-time United Bowl champion with the Storm (2015, 2016 and 2019). He is one of the top leaders and passers in the history of the IFL who did not see much time in 2022. There has been quite a bit of turnover, but Riggs is bound to put together a competitive group. Donnie Corley returns at wide receiver, and Bryson Denley should see some time in the backfield. Lawrence Edwards should anchor the offensive line. Defensively, Undraez Lilly is the name to watch, along with defensive lineman Chima Dunga. Veteran Jimmy Camacho has a strong leg as the Storm kicker.
STEAMWHEELERS
Quad City picked up the first win of 2023 last week, but the San Diego Strike Force gave them everything they could handle. After a season-opening loss to the Arizona Rattlers, the Steamwheelers will hope to build some momentum during the early part of the season. E.J. Hilliard is in top form having completed 53 percent of his passes for 260 yards, six touchdowns and one pick. He also has another 150 yards and five scores on the ground. The receiving group is led by CJ Windham with 7 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown. Mike Carrigan has three scoring catches; all of which came in the season opener against the Rattlers. Darreon Jackson paces the defense with 14 tackles and three pass break ups, while Krystapher Oakley and Joseph Freeland come in with 10 and 8.5 tackles, respectively. Jadarius Byrd has the team's lone interception. Chase Allbaugh posts a 48.5-yard kickoff average through two games.
